Goa marks its Statehood Day every May 30, honouring its official separation from Daman and Diu as a state in 1987.
Though the smallest state in terms of area, it packs a punch in popularity. For over four and a half centuries, Goa was a Portuguese colony. In 1961, it was liberated by India and became a union territory alongside Daman and Diu. But Goa's journey wasn't over. Later in 1987, it was granted full statehood, becoming the 25 member of the Indian Union.
