Over 4,100 Teachers Join Government Schools in Odisha
A total of 4,166 teachers joined government secondary schools in Odisha during a programme at the Kalinga Stadium. The 'Nijukti Parba' (appointment meet) held at the stadium marked the induction of teachers into their roles.
Addressing the occasion, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik emphasised that the role of teachers extends beyond creating good students to shaping good human beings.
Additionally, the Chief Minister announced the launch of the Rs. 138-crore 'Chief Minister's Education Award' scheme in Odisha. These awards will recognise and honour the contributions of teachers, students, government schools, village panchayats, school management committees, and district and block-level education officials.

WHO Officially Recognises Noma as a Neglected Tropical Disease
In a pivotal move towards addressing one of the world's most under recognised health challenges, the World Health Organisation (WHO) announced the inclusion of 'noma' (cancrum oris or gangrenous stomatitis) in its official list of neglected tropical diseases (NTDs). This decision, which was recommended by the 17th meeting of the Strategic and Technical Advisory Group for Neglected Tropical Diseases (STAG-NTD), underscored WHO's commitment to expanding health services to the world's most vulnerable populations.
Noma, a severe gangrenous disease of the mouth and face, primarily affects malnourished young children (between the ages of 2 and 6 years) in regions of extreme poverty. It starts as an inflammation of the gums, which, if not treated early, spreads quickly to destroy facial tissues and bones. It frequently leads to death, with survivors suffering severe disfigurement.

ICAI Unveils new CA India Logo
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) unveiled its new CA India logo at the Global Professional Accountants Convention (GloPAC) held in Gandhinagar.
The new logo consists of the letters 'CA' in blue with a tricolour tick mark (upside down) on a white background. "The blue colour denotes creativity, innovativeness, knowledge, integrity, trust, truth, stability, and depth. The upside-down tick mark in tricolour, typically used by Chartered Accountants during audits, has been included to symbolise the wisdom and value of the professionals. 'India' is added to the logo, which epitomises the Institute's commitment to the India First approach and commitment to serve the Indian economy in public interest.
This new logo was launched by the Vice-President of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar.
IIM Bangalore, IIM Ahmedabad and ISB Hyderabad jointly hosted a 'Director's Panel' comprising Prof. Bharat Bhasker, Director, IIM Ahmedabad, Prof. Madan Pillutla, Dean, Indian School of Business, and Prof. Rishikesha T Krishnan, Director, IIM Bangalore at IIM-B campus. Dr. Raveendra Chittoor, Dean, Jio Institute, moderated the session.
This panel discussed the challenges likely to be faced by academics in the management area in the coming decade as well as the opportunities, in the Indian context.

IIT Madras Hosts Inter-IIT Tech Meet
The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) is hosting the 12th edition of the annual Inter-IIT Tech Meet from December 19 to 22, 2023. This is the first fully offline tech meeting since the Covid-19 pandemic.
This year (2023), the event is expected to witness a footfall of nearly 1,000 students across the IITs. They are participating in 13 competitions ranging from product management, quantum computing, game development, mathematics and cybersecurity.
The Inter-IIT Tech Meet is an annual pan-IIT competition, to test the technical skills of IIT students in solving real-world problems which can impact millions of lives. The University Grants Commission (UGC) took a firm stance against edtech companies and colleges that offer degrees in partnership with foreign universities that have not received its approval.
Furthermore, to safeguard their educational pursuits, students are urged to exercise caution and avoid programmes offered by edtech companies or colleges partnered with universities lacking UGC recognition. These degrees will not be valid and may hinder future career prospects.
