IIT Madras Launches 'Sanjaya' Location Intelligence Tool in Haryana

  • Indian Institute of Technology Madras' (IIT Madras) Centre of Excellence for Road Safety (CoERS) launched a new location intelligence platform called 'Sanjaya' in Haryana.
  • It will help the road-owning agencies, law enforcement, emergency care providers, and other road safety stakeholders to visualise the high-frequency accident zone data for planning targeted interventions in Haryana.

IIT Mandi Hosts Indo-German Workshop on Engineering for Sustainable Development

  • The Indian Institute of Technology Mandi, in collaboration with Leibniz University Hannover, organised a three-day workshop on 'Engineering for Sustainable and Resilient Development'. The workshop was sponsored by the Indo-German Science and Technology Centre.
  • The primary objective of the workshop was to facilitate discussions on sustainable and resilient infrastructures. By fostering collaboration between faculty members at IIT Mandi and their counterparts in Germany, the workshop aimed to share knowledge and resources to promote sustainable development aligned with the goals of both countries.

ICSI Gets New President and Vice-President for 2024

  • The Institute of Companies Secretaries of India (ICSI) elected B. Narasimhan and Dhananjay Shukla as the president and vice-president, respectively of the institute for the current year 2024. The new president replaced C. S. Manish Gupta. B. Narasimhan was the vice president of the institute in 2023.

Dharmendra Pradhan Inaugurates Second Edition of IInvenTiv at IIT Hyderabad

  • Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurated the second edition of the Ministry of Education's flagship R&D Innovation Fair, IInvenTiv-2024, at IIT Hyderabad.
  • IInvenTiv-2024 presented a diverse array of innovative projects, showcasing a total of 120 groundbreaking initiatives from 53 esteemed institutes. These innovations were from a broad and collaborative spectrum of participating institutions, including prestigious names such as IITs, NITs, IISERs, IIITs, IISc Bangalore, and the top 50 NIRF-ranked engineering institutions in the country.

IIT Gandhinagar, University of San Diego Collaborate for Academic Research

  • The Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) and the University of San Diego, USA, entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for collaboration in various academic, research, capacity building, training, and faculty/staff development activities.
  • The MoU was signed and exchanged by Professor Chell Roberts, Dean, Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering (SMSE), University of San Diego, and Professor S P Mehrotra, Professor-in-Charge, External Relations, IIT Gandhinagar.
  • With this new partnership, both institutes, committed to the highest standards of global educational and research excellence, offer joint Double Master's Programmes, Dual Degree Programmes at BTech and Master's levels, including Master's in Engineering Management and Leadership; as well as joint Executive Education Programmes.

Delhi Playschools Need to Register Themselves with WCD Department

  • In a new development, playschools operating in the national capital are set to undergo mandatory registration with the Delhi government's Department of Women and Child Development. This decision came after a meeting between the department, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), and the Delhi Education Department, where concerns about non-compliance with established norms by many playschools were raised.

IGNOU Launches MA (Spanish)

  • The School of Foreign Languages at IGNOU announced the Master of Arts in Spanish (MASL) programme. This programme is designed to provide an in-depth knowledge of Hispanic culture, literature, and history, equipping students with the knowledge to comprehend contemporary developments in the region.
  • The curriculum, as per IGNOU, also includes practical modules such as translation studies, interpretation, and linguistics. Upon successful completion of the MASL program, learners will possess the proficiency to articulate and elucidate various facets of Hispanic cultures. National Workshop in Tirupati on Healthy Villages

  • Minister of State for Panchayati Raj Kapil Moreshwar Patil inaugurated a three-day national workshop on 'Healthy Village towards Healthier Tomorrow' in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh.
  • Organised by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj (MoPR) in collaboration with the Panchayati Raj and Rural Development Department, Government of Andhra Pradesh, the workshop focused on the localisation of sustainable development goals in gram panchayats through adopting thematic approaches, specifically addressing the theme 'Healthy Village'.
  • The workshop aimed to showcase exemplary strategies, convergent actions, and innovative models related to health parameters, preventive measures for communicable and non-communicable diseases, and the integration of village health plans into gram panchayat development plans (GPDP).

Coaching Centres Cannot Enrol Students below 16 Years

  • Coaching centres cannot enrol students below the age of 16 and admission procedure will be permitted only after successful completion of the secondary school examination, according to new guidelines announced by the Ministry of Education. The new guidelines also advise the coaching institutes against making misleading promises and guaranteeing rank or good marks.
  • The guidelines for regulating coaching institutes were framed to address the need for a legal framework and manage the unregulated growth of private coaching centres.
  • The registration process for coaching centres involves submitting applications, undergoing renewal procedures, and complying with specified conditions. Registration conditions include hiring qualified tutors, avoiding deceptive promises, admitting students above the age of 16, and implementing a counselling system.

Kerala Makes Preamble to the Constitution Part of School Textbooks

  • In a first in the state, the revised school textbooks of Kerala will include a Preamble to the Constitution. General Education Minister V. Sivankutty said that the preamble of the Constitution will be included as the preface in all textbooks. There will be activities intended for children to imbibe it as part of the curriculum.
  • The state school curriculum steering committee gave approval to 173 textbook titles in a comprehensive curriculum revision for classes I, III, V, VII, and IX as part of curriculum reforms. The new textbooks for other classes will be ready by the 2025-26 academic year.

IIM Calcutta Appoints Saibal Chattopadhyay as New Director in Charge

  • Senior faculty member of IIM Calcutta Professor Saibal Chattopadhyay, was appointed as the director-in-charge of the premier B school. Chattopadhyay was appointed by the Board of Governors (BoG) with immediate effect.

IIT Madras Partners with Technology Firm Altair for E-mobility Lab

  • Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) partnered with Altair, a company providing solutions in simulation and high-performance computing and artificial intelligence, to start a laboratory for e-mobility.
  • The eMobility Simulation Lab at the department of engineering design, IIT Madras, will have the latest tools along with financial support from Altair.
