Leila Aboulela, a Sudanese-Scottish writer, was named the winner of the 2025 PEN Pinter Prize. The award was announced in London by English PEN, in recognition of her powerful writing that explores faith, migration, and the lives of Muslim women. She will receive the award in a ceremony in October.
The PEN Pinter Prize is given to writers whose work shows truth, courage, and a deep understanding of society. Leila Aboulela was chosen for her honest and brave storytelling.

Telangana Wins National Award for Battery Manufacturing

Kasaragod Wins Kerala Fisheries Department's Excellence Award 2025
The Kerala Fisheries Department conferred the Fisheries Department Excellence Award 2025 on Kasaragod district, acknowledging its outstanding performance under the Popular Fish Farming Project. This prestigious honour highlights Kasaragod's leadership in sustainable and innovative practices in aquaculture and its consistent efforts at the grassroots level.
Kasaragod was adjudged the best district in the State for its effective implementation of fisheries development projects. The award is part of the annual State Farmer Awards, instituted by the department to honour excellence in the fisheries and aquaculture sectors across Kerala.
In addition to the district award, two local aquaculture practitioners from Kasaragod earned accolades in individual categories:
Ravi P. P., a fish farmer from Padanna, won second place in the Best Backwater Fish Seed Production Farmer category.
Sea Pearl Aquafarm, based in Kumbala, was awarded third place for Best Innovative Fish Farming.
PM Modi Awarded Namibia's Highest Civilian Honour
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred Namibia's highest civilian honour, 'The Order of the Most Ancient Welwitschia Mirabilis', during his one-day state visit to the African nation.
The award was presented by the President of Namibia, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, at a special ceremony, marking a new milestone in the ties between the two nations.
PM Modi is the first Indian leader to receive this honour.
Established in 1995, the award recognises distinguished service and leadership. It is named after the Welwitschia Mirabilis, a unique desert plant found only in Namibia that symbolises resilience, longevity and the enduring spirit of its people.

PM Modi Conferred Brazil's Highest Civilian Award
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred Brazil's highest civilian award, the Grand Collar of the National Order of the Southern Cross.
The honour was presented by Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, in recognition of PM Modi's notable contributions to strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing India-Brazil cooperation across key global platforms.
This is the 26th international honour bestowed upon PM Modi by a foreign government since he assumed office in May 2014.
