The Hindu Young World Wins Gold at WAN-IFRA Asian Media Awards 2023

The gold at the WAN-IFRA Asian Media Awards 2023 in the 'Best in Newspaper Marketing' category was won by 'The Hindu' for their successful campaigns promoting Young World's special issues. This recognition was awarded to 'The Hindu' for their outstanding marketing efforts and campaigns that effectively promoted and increased the readership base of Young World's special issues, which focus on providing insights into specific topics and staying current with trends.
This award is an acknowledgement and validation of The Hindu Group's efforts to reach our young readers in new and innovative ways. We are grateful for this recognition and look forward to many such laurels.

Two Indian-American Scientists Awarded United State's Highest Scientific Honour

Two Indian American scientists, Ashok Gadgil and Subra Suresh, were awarded the National Medal of Technology and Innovation, which is the highest honour for technological achievement in the United States.
US President Joe Biden conferred the medals on Gadgil and Suresh.
Gadgil, who currently works as a professor at the University of California, Berkeley and a senior scientist of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, is a renowned inventor and innovator in the field of sustainable development. His work has focused on developing affordable and effective technologies to improve access to clean water, energy efficiency, and sanitation in developing countries.
Subra Suresh, an Indian-born American bioengineer, materials scientist, and academic, is a Professor Emeritus and former dean of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His research focusses on the intersection of engineering, physical sciences, life sciences, and medicine. He was the first Asian-born professor to lead any of the five schools at MIT.

Venkaiah Naidu Nominated Jury Member of Gandhi Peace Prize

Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the appointment of former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu as a nominated jury member for the annual Gandhi Peace Prize.
The five-member jury is headed by the Prime Minister, with the Chief Justice of India and the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha as its permanent members, while two other jury members are nominated for a period of three years. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla is also a nominated member.
Naidu replaced Sulabh International Founder Bindeshwar Pathak on the jury, a former Gandhi Peace Prize winner, who passed away in 2023.

REC Limited Honoured with Golden Peacock Award in Risk Management

REC Limited, the Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power, was recognised for its exceptional performance in risk management with the esteemed Golden Peacock Award, given by the Institute of Directors (IOD). The Golden Peacock Award in Risk Management highlights REC's continued commitment to implementing effective risk assessment strategies, thereby contributing to the organization's sustainable growth and resilience in a competitive business landscape.
The recognition also underscored REC's commitment to excellence and innovation in its operations in the power sector.
The Golden Peacock Awards, established by the Institute of Directors (IOD), India in 1991, has emerged as an internationally acclaimed standard for corporate excellence. REC Limited was selected by the jury panel headed by former Chief Justice of India, Justice M. N. Venkatachaliah.
Director (Projects), REC, V. K. Singh and Executive Director (Finance), REC, Daljeet Singh Khatri received the award on behalf of REC at a glittering ceremony held in London.

ICAI Receives UN Award for its Contribution to Sustainability Reporting

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) received a prestigious UN award for its top-ranked sustainability initiatives, including the Sustainability Reporting Standards Board. The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) honoured ICAI during the 8th World Investment Forum for its contributions to sustainability reporting. ICAI's efforts aim to promote sustainable practices in India and align with international standards.
ICAI's sustainability initiatives received the highest score among 70 initiatives worldwide.
They were recognised for their work through the Sustainability Reporting Standards Board (SRSB).
The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) presented ICAI with the ISAR Honours 2023 for its outstanding contributions.
UNCTAD announced the winners during the 8th World Investment Forum in Abu Dhabi on October 17 2023.

Chief Justice Receives Harvard Law School's 'Award for Global Leadership'

Chief Justice of India (CJI) D. Y. Chandrachud was felicitated with the 'Award for Global Leadership' by the Harvard Law School.
The Chief Justice was announced as the recipient of the award in January this year (2023).
The CJI said that the initiatives taken by the Supreme Court during his first year of tenure, which included the use of technology in court processes, the launch of handbook on combating gender stereotypes and others.
The felicitation came at a time when the Harvard Law School is celebrating the 100th anniversary of its Graduate Law Program.

Indian-origin Academics among 30 Winners of UK's 3 mn Pound Research Prize

Indian-origin academics from the University of Oxford and a South Asian historian from King's College London are among 30 winners of the UK's 3-million-pound 2023 Leverhulme Trust prize, which recognises exceptional research across different fields.
Professor Amia Srinivasan from the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Oxford was recognised for her work on epistemology, social and political philosophy, feminism, metaphilosophy, and the history of philosophy.
Fellow Oxford University Professor, Ridhi Kashyap, from the Department of Sociology, was honoured for her work on demography, social statistics, computational social science, digital and computational demography, and gender inequalities.
The prizes, created in the name of Philip, Third Viscount Leverhulme, recognise and celebrate the achievements of outstanding researchers whose work has already attracted international recognition and whose future careers are exceptionally promising.

Mahsa Amini Awarded EU's Sakharov Human Rights Prize

Mahsa Amini, the Kurdish Iranian woman who died in police custody in Iran last year (2022), sparking worldwide protests against the country's conservative Islamic theocracy, was posthumously awarded the EU's top human rights prize' the Sakharov Prize'.
The award, named for the Soviet dissident Andrei Sakharov, was created in 1988 to honour individuals or groups who defend human rights and fundamental freedoms. Sakharov, a Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, died in 1989.
The annual Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought recognises human rights activists and dissidents.

Third Naga, Youngest Naga Battalion, Gets President's Colour

The 3rd Battalion of the Naga Regiment (3 Naga) got the President's Colour award from Army chief Gen. Manoj Pande, heralding a new phase for the unit that has already bagged several citations.
The 'colour', represented by a flag, was presented to the battalion at the Kumaon Regimental Centre (KRC) in Ranikhet.
Also called 'Nishan', presidential colours are a military tradition, and seen as the recognition of a battalion's feats.
'Colour' symbolises the collective spirit of the battalion, and 'its acts of valour forged in sweat and blood'.
The tradition began under colonial rule but, on November 23, 1950, the 'King's Colour' of the erstwhile British Indian regiments were laid to rest in the Chetwode Hall, Dehradun, to make way for the 'colours' of the President of the Republic of India.
The colours are presented by the President or, on her/his behalf, by the Chief of the Army Staff.
The 3rd battalion of the Naga regiment was raised on October 1, 2009 at Haldwani, nestled among the Kumaon Hills, home of the Kumaon & Naga regiments.
