World Suicide Prevention Day

  • Each year, on 10 September, World Suicide Prevention Day is observed since 2003 by the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP), with the World Health Organization (WHO) as co-sponsor. The day mobilises governments, organisations and the public around one message: Suicide is preventable.
  • The triennial theme for World Suicide Prevention Day (2024–2026) is "Changing the Narrative on Suicide". This theme calls on us all to challenge harmful myths, reduce stigma, and foster open, compassionate conversations around suicide.

World Physical Therapy Day

  • World Physiotherapy Day (World PT Day) is a global healthcare event celebrated on the 8th of September every year since 1996, commemorating the date of the World Physiotherapy foundation in 1951.
  • This day serves as a homage to all the physiotherapists and the services they render, achieving the ultimate goal of a symptom-free movement at basic to complex physical activities in patients and the healthy alike. 
  • The theme for the World Physiotherapy Day 2025 is 'Healthy Ageing' with a specific focus on preventing frailty and falls. This theme emphasises the significance of exercise and physical therapy for encouraging healthy ageing, with a focus on lowering frailty and preventing falls in older persons.

International Literacy Day

  • The world observes International Literacy Day 2025 on September 8, and so on this day the focus once again shifts to one of humanity's most powerful tools for change: the ability to read and write.
  • International Literacy Day was first proclaimed in 1966 by UNESCO, with the idea of making literacy a global priority. The following year, in 1967, the world observed the day for the first time.

  • The International Day of Charity was established in 2012 by the United Nations to honour and acknowledge the work of organisations engaged in global humanitarian efforts. The date of September 5 was chosen as the anniversary of Mother Teresa's death.

National Nutrition Week

  • National Nutrition Week is celebrated every year from September 1 to 7 in India. Organised by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and Ministry of Women & Child Development, this campaign aims to educate people, especially young students—about the value of balanced diets and good nutrition habits. Schools across the country celebrate the week with several interactive and creative activities.
  • The roots of National Nutrition Week trace back to 1975, when it began as a campaign by the American Dietetic Association, which later inspired health departments around the world. India adopted this important observance in 1982, led by the Food and Nutrition Board under the Ministry of Women & Child Development.
  • The theme for National Nutrition Week 2025 is 'Eat Right for a Better Life' highlights the importance of healthy eating for students and families in India.

  • India annually observes National Small Industry Day on August 30 to acknowledge the crucial role played by small-scale industries (SSIs) in the nation's economic framework.   • The day was established to recognise the extensive policy package for small industries introduced by the Indian government on August 30, 2000.
