State Bank of India Ropes in MS Dhoni as Brand Ambassador

The country's largest lender, State Bank of India, roped in cricketing legend Mahendra Singh Dhoni as the bank's official brand ambassador to strengthen its connection, especially with the younger population.
Dhoni will play a pivotal role in various marketing and promotional campaigns of SBI.
His remarkable capacity to maintain composure in stressful situations and his renowned ability for clear thinking and rapid decision-making under duress makes him the ideal choice that resonates with SBI, to connect with its customers and stakeholders across the country.
Among public sector banks, Bank of Baroda had appointed Rahul Dravid as its brand ambassador. At present, badminton players P. V. Sindhu, K. Srikanth, and cricketer Shafali Verma are BOB's brand ambassadors. Delhi-based Punjab National Bank had also taken Virat Kohli on board as its brand ambassador.

Baijnath Aggarwal, Trustee of Geeta Press Gorakhpur, Passes Away

Gita Press trustee Baijnath Agarwal passed away at the age of 90 at his residence in Gorakhpur's Hariom Nagar.
For the past 40 years, Baijnath dedicated his life to social awareness and humanitarian causes as a trustee of Gita Press.
In 1950, Baijnath Agarwal joined Gita Press as an employee at the age of 17. He became a trustee of Gita Press in 1983. Prior to this position, he had also held the role of an administrator at Gita Press. His father also worked as an employee there.
In 2023, the Centre had conferred the Gandhi Peace Prize for the year 2021 on Gita Press, Gorakhpur.
Established in 1923, Gita Press is one of the world's largest publishers, having published 41.7 crore books in 14 languages, including 16.21 crore Shrimad Bhagavad Gita.

Former Union and State Minister Babanrao Dhakne Passes Away

Former Union and State Minister Babanrao Dhakne died at the age of 86.
He was considered a prominent leader of the Vanjari Community of Maharashtra.
He was the Minister of State for Energy in the government of former Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar, and had also handled several key ministries in Maharashtra besides serving as Leader of Opposition and Deputy Speaker of Assembly.
He was associated with several parties like Congress, Janata Party, Janata Dal, Nationalist Congress Party and enjoyed close rapport with former PMs like Indira Gandhi, V. P. Singh and other bigwigs in the Centre and state politics.

Assam's Eminent Academician, Singer Birendranath Datta Dies

Eminent academician, singer and lyricist Birendranath Datta died. He was 88.
A recipient of the Padma Shri in the field of art and literature in 2009, Datta began his career as an academician at B. Barooah College in Guwahati, Assam and went on to teach at different colleges of the state, before retiring as the head of the department of Folklore Research of Gauhati University.
After his retirement, he joined Tezpur University as a professor in the Department of Traditional Culture and Art Forms.
An eminent lyricist, Datta penned several songs and even sang many of those, with 'Bohu din bokuler gundh puwa nai' being one of his most popular numbers.
He was also the president of Assam's premier literary organisation Asam Sahitya Sabha for two terms from 2003 and a life member of the Gauhati Artists' Guild.

Bishan Singh Bedi, one of India's most iconic cricketers, passed away at the age of 77. A left-arm spinner and former captain of the Indian cricket team, Bedi's contributions to the sport left an indelible mark on the cricketing world.
Bishan Singh Bedi's legacy in the world of cricket is monumental. His prowess as a spinner, leadership on the field, and contributions to Indian cricket as a mentor and selector will forever be celebrated.
Bishan Singh Bedi made his Test debut against Australia in the 1969-70 series, and from that point on, he became a force to be reckoned with. His Test career was nothing short of exceptional, with memorable performances against top cricketing nations.
In 1976, Bedi was appointed captain of the Indian cricket team, succeeding Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. He achieved a historic victory against the formidable West Indies in Port-of-Spain, and his captaincy laid the foundation for India's dominance in international cricket.
Bedi, along with Erapalli Prasanna, BS Chandrasekhar, and S. Venkataraghavan, played a pivotal role in India's spin bowling revolution. Their collective efforts significantly elevated India's cricketing prowess.
In 1970, Bishan Singh Bedi was honoured with the Padma Shri, one of India's highest civilian awards, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to cricket.
