Asia Pacific Rally Championship 2023: Jahaan Singh Gill Clinches His Maiden Title

India's Jahaan Singh Gill underlined his supremacy and clinched the FIA Junior Asia Pacific Rally Championship title 2023 in his maiden outing in Indonesia.
In a grid comprising 63 competitive drivers across categories, Gill ruled the junior class, while the other JK Tyre Motorsports drivers Suhem Kabeer and Lokesh Gowda stamped their authority in the NVA (National Vehicles Approval) category.

Shubman Gill Takes the Helm as Gujarat Titans Captain for IPL 2024

Gujarat Titans named Shubman Gill as the captain for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. This decision followed the departure of all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who was traded to Mumbai Indians.
Shubman Gill, initially made his mark with the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2018, and joined Gujarat Titans in 2021. Known for providing explosive starts, Gill has become a linchpin for the team, showcasing his ability to set the tone of the innings.
Gujarat Titans made history in the 2022 IPL by clinching the title in their debut season.

Anurag Singh Thakur Launches Khelo India Para Games 2023 Logo and Mascot Ujjwala

Anurag Singh Thakur, Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, unveiled the logo and mascot for the first-ever Khelo India Para Games 2023. This historic occasion was graced by the presence of eminent athletes and para athletes, marking a significant step towards inclusivity and recognition in Indian sports.
The official mascot, 'Ujjwala,' a sparrow, was revealed during the ceremony. Representing the pride of Delhi, this little sparrow stands as a symbol of determination and empathy.
The inaugural Khelo India Para Games is expected to witness participation from over 1400 athletes across 32 states, union territories, and the Services Sports Control Board. The athletes will compete in 7 disciplines, including para athletics, para shooting, para archery, para football, para badminton, para table tennis, and para weightlifting. The three designated SAI stadiums – IG Stadium, Shooting Range in Tughlaqabad, and JLN Stadium in Delhi will host the events from December 10 to 17, 2023.

Uday Saharan to Lead India in Under-19 Asia Cup

Promising batsman Uday Saharan will lead defending champions India in the ACC Men's Under-19 Asia Cup to be played in the UAE from December 8.
Saharan, from Punjab, was on the selection radar for a while.
Saumy Kumar Pandey was named as vice-captain of the 15-member side.
India are the most successful team in the Under-19 Asia Cup having won the title eight times.
India is grouped with Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nepal in the tournament.
The final is scheduled to be played at the Dubai International Stadium on December 17.

China Masters: Satwik-Chirag Trip at Final

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty fought valiantly before going down to the Chinese duo of Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang in an exciting men's doubles final of the China Masters Super 750 tournament.
Rankireddy and Shetty, the Asian Games champions, lost 19-21 21-18 19-21 to the world No. 1 Chinese pair. It was their first defeat in six finals this season.

Anish Bhanwala Wins 25m Rapid Fire Bronze at World Cup Final

Anish Bhanwala won the bronze medal in the men's 25 m Rapid Fire final at the ISSF World Cup final in Doha.
Bhanwala became the first Indian shooter to win a medal in the event in the World Cup Final. Earlier Vijay Kumar had reached the final in 2009, while Gurpreet Singh had reached the final in 2015.

Bengaluru Hosts Namma Kambala

Kambala, the popular buffalo racing contest native to the coastal Karnataka region was held in Bengaluru. The traditional folk sport, usually held in the aftermath of the southwest monsoon, unfolded its excitement at the iconic Palace Grounds. Organised by Tulukoota Bengaluru, this is the first time Kambala found a venue in the heart of Bengaluru.
Kambala is a sport where buffaloes are driven through a slushy paddy field by a whip-wielding farmer.
In its traditional form, Kambala was non-competitive, with pairs running one by one. However, modern Kambala involves contests between two pairs of buffaloes.

ICC Bans Transgender Players from International Women's Cricket

In a significant policy decision, the International Cricket Council (ICC) implemented a ban on transgender cricketers from participating in international women's cricket at the highest level. This decision has raised discussions around inclusivity, athlete rights and the impact of the ban on transgender individuals. The move is said to be in alignment with the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) guidelines, considering cricket's inclusion in the 2028 Olympics.
The decision came on the heels of controversary sparked by Canada's Danielle McGahey, who became the first transgender cricketer to participate in an official international match just two months ago. The 29-year-old opening batter played in all six of Canada's matches during the Women's T20 World Cup Americans region qualifiers event in Los Angeles. Under the previous ICC regulations, which focused on reducing testosterone levels, McGahey met all eligibility criteria. However, the new rules prioritise the protection of the women's game's integrity, safety, fairness and inclusion.

Anahat Singh Becomes Second Youngest to Win National Squash Championship Title

Velavan Senthilkumar (Tamil Nadu) and Anahat Singh (Delhi) won their maiden men's and women's titles, respectively in the 79th National Squash Championships at the Indian Squash and Triathlon Academy (ISTA), Chennai.
The 15-year-old Anahat became the second youngest ever to have won the women's title. Joshna Chinappa was 14 when she won the first of her 19 titles in 2000.

Marlon Samuels, Former West Indies Player, Receives 6-year Ban

Marlon Samuels, the former West Indies batter, was handed a six-year ban from all forms of cricket by the International Cricket Council (ICC). The ban was imposed due to his failure to disclose benefits received during the Abu Dhabi T10 league, actions that could have brought the sport into disrepute, concealing information, and non-cooperation with the investigation officer.
