Minho & Lee Dong Wook Global Ambassadors for 2024 Winter Olympics

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) selected SHINee's Minho and acclaimed K-drama actor Lee Dong-wook as the first Global Ambassadors for the 'OlympicTM Friends' program. They will represent the 4th Winter Youth Olympic Games, to be hosted in Republic of Korea's Gangwon province in 2024.
The 'OlympicTM Friends' program aims to use public figures to promote Olympic values. The 2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympics, the first Asian Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG), are scheduled to take place from January 19 to February 1, 2024, aiming to provide more opportunities for youth to participate in various events.
The motto for the 2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympics is 'Grow Together, Shine Forever'.

West Indies' Dowrich Announces International Retirement

Shane Dowrich retired from international cricket and withdrew from the West Indies squad for the ODI series against England, the country's cricket board Cricket West Indies (CWI) announced. Dowrich was unexpectedly recalled to the West Indies squad this month (December 2023), three years after his last Test and four years after his last ODI.
Dowrich made his Test debut against Australia in 2015 and went on to play 35 Tests. He played only one ODI against Bangladesh in 2019. His last outing for the West Indies was against New Zealand in December 2020. He played 35 Tests, scoring 1570 runs with the best of 125 not out against Sri Lanka. As a wicketkeeper, he also recorded 85 catches and five stumpings.

Uganda Creates History with T20 World Cup 2024 Qualification

The Uganda cricket team created history by qualifying for the 2024 T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA. The side beat Rwanda by nine wickets chasing 66 runs from 20 overs. Brian Masaba's led side chased the total in 8.1 overs and became the second team to qualify after Namibia.
The ICC T20 World Cup will be held from June 4, 2024 to June 30, 2024 in West Indies and United States.
The qualified teams for the 2024 T20 World Cup are:
USA, West Indies, Australia, England, India, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Ireland, Scotland, Papua New Guinea, Canada, Nepal, Oman, Namibia and Uganda.

Odisha to Host Ultimate Kho Kho Season 2

Ultimate Kho Kho (UKK) is all set to enthral audiences with its grand second edition, scheduled to commence on December 24, 2023 and conclude on January 13, 2024. The Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Cuttack, Odisha, will play host to this high-octane sporting event.
Inspired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik's vision of 'sports for youth, youth for the future,' the Odisha government has emerged as a hub for major global sports events.
The upcoming season will feature India's top 145 players, showcasing the best talent in the country. Notably, 33 young talents aged between 16 to 18 will add a youthful vigour to the competition. Six franchises, including defending champions Odisha Juggernauts, Chennai Quick Guns, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Khiladis, Rajasthan Warriors and Telugu Yoddhas, will compete for the coveted crown.

BCCI Extends Rahul Dravid's Stint as Team India's Head Coach

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the extension of contracts for Head Coach Rahul Dravid and the Support Staff of Team India (Senior Men). The decision came on the heels of the conclusion of ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023, where India showcased a commendable performance under Dravid's guidance.
Rahul Dravid, often hailed as 'The Wall' during his playing days, fortified a similar legacy in his coaching role. The BCCI acknowledged Dravid's instrumental role in shaping the Indian Team and commended his exceptional professionalism.

Men's Hockey National: Punjab Defeat Haryana to Clinch Title

Punjab outwitted defending champions Haryana in a penalty shootout and clinched the title in the Senior Men's National Hockey Championship.
Punjab and Haryana ended the regulation time tied at 2-2 before the former emerged a 9-8 winner in the shootout.
Tamil Nadu overwhelmed Karnataka 5-3 in penalty shootout and took the bronze medal.

Italy WinS Davis Cup for First Time Since 1976

Italy fulfilled their potential as one of the most promising tennis nations in the world by defeating Australia 2-0 and became Davis Cup champions for the first time since 1976. The world number four clinched victory in the second singles rubber after Matteo Arnaldi dug deep to beat Alexei Popyrin 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 in the opening clash. Italy had booked their place in the final of Davis Cup 2023 after defeating Novak Djokovic's Serbia, and Matteo Arnaldi again showed the country's determination as he opened the final, which was held in the Spanish city of Malaga, Spain with a tense 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 win over Alexei Popyrin, reports Xinhua.
Australia's wait for a Davis Cup trophy goes on, with their last coming in 2003, but Italy, who last reached a final in 1998, celebrated wildly when De Minaur went wide to end the tie. Arnaldi's win set up Jannik Sinner to seal the win with a thumping 6-3, 6-0 win over Alex de Minaur, with a display that gave the Australian very few options to take the tie to a deciding doubles match.
