International Tennis Hall of Fame: Leander Paes, Vijay Amritraj First Asian Men to be Inducted in...

Former doubles world No. 1 Leander Paes and broadcaster and promoter Vijay Amritraj of India became the first Asian men to be inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
Besides the duo, renowned journalist and writer Richard Evans was also elected for the ultimate honour in Tennis.

IPL Becomes a Decacorn with Valuation of $10.7 Billion

The Indian Premier League (IPL) achieved the status of decacorn after a 28 per cent rise in its brand valuation to $10.7 billion, according to a report released by Brand Finance. A decacorn is a privately held company with a valuation of $10 billion or more. IPL's brand value was $8.4 billion in 2022. Since 2008, when the league was launched, IPL's brand value has jumped 433 per cent from the $2 billion valuation after season one.
Among the IPL franchises, Mumbai Indians was the most valuable, with a valuation of $87 million. It has been at the top of the list since 2020.
MI was followed by Chennai Super Kings with a valuation of $80.6 million, Kolkata Knight Riders were in third place at $78.6 million, followed by Royal Challengers Bangalore at $69.8 million.
Gujarat Titans was the fifth highest-valued IPL team with a valuation of $65.4 million. Notably, CSK's brand value has more than doubled since its debut in 2008.

National Basketball Championship Final: Railway Women Retain Title; Tamil Nadu Men Beat Railways

Tamil Nadu men's team and the Railways women's side lifted the trophies as the curtains fell on the eight-day extravaganza of the 73rd Senior National Basketball Championships (Men and Women) in Ludhiana.
The women's team from Railways dominated their counterparts from Kerala, with the final score line reading 80-50. Tamil Nadu men edged Railways in a much-closer final 72-67.
In the men's competition, the home team Punjab brought joy for the fans by clinching the bronze medal. The side edged out Delhi in the third-place play-off with a 71-65 score line
The women's team from Tamil Nadu bagged the bronze medal, ousting Karnataka in a keenly contested match 65-54.

ICC Men's U19 World Cup 2024: Uday Saharan to Lead 15-man India Squad, Saumy Kumar Pandey His Deputy

Batter Uday Saharan will captain defending champions India at the 2024 ICC Under-19 World Cup in South Africa. Throughout the history of the event, India is the most decorated with five U19 Men's Cricket World Cup titles.
The upcoming World Cup marks the 15th edition of the U19 men's event, following the last tournament in the West Indies in 2022 where India clinched the title for the fifth time. The 16 participating teams have been divided into four groups of four with the scheduled start being in January 2024. There will be 41 matches with the final to be played in February. Defending Champions India is joined by Bangladesh, Ireland and USA in Group A.
The tournament will take place at five venues between January 19 and February 11, 2024.

Iga Swiatek is the First Woman since Serena Williams to Win WTA Player of the Year Twice in a Row

Iga Swiatek's second consecutive season-ending No. 1 ranking helped her collect a second consecutive WTA Player of the Year award, making her the first woman since Serena Williams to claim that honour twice in a row.
Williams, who retired last year (2022), was the WTA Player of the Year every season from 2012-15, the final four of the seven total times the American claimed that award.
Zheng Qinwen of China was the Most Improved Player of the Year, Mirra Andreeva of Russia was the Newcomer of the Year, Elina Svitolina of Ukraine was chosen for the Comeback of the Year and Tomasz Wiktorowski — who works with Swiatek — was the Coach of the Year.
Storm Hunter of Australia and Elise Mertens of Belgium earned Doubles Team of the Year, Ons Jabeur of Tunisia was the recipient of both the Karen Krantzcke Sportsmanship Award and the Peachy Kellmeyer Player Service Award, and Jessica Pegula of the US was given the Jerry Diamond ACES Award for her off-court promotional and charitable activities.

Asad Shafiq Announces Retirement from All Forms of Cricket

Pakistan's cricket fraternity bids farewell to one of its stalwarts as Asad Shafiq, the middle-order batter, announced his retirement from all forms of the game. Shafiq, who made his international debut in 2010, leaves behind a legacy of resilience and reliability, particularly in Test cricket.
Making his mark across all three formats, Asad Shafiq represented Pakistan in 77 Tests, 60 ODIs, and 10 T20Is. While his performances in white-ball cricket were moderate, Shafiq emerged as a shining star in the Test arena, showcasing his skills as one of Pakistan's most dependable batters in varied conditions.

Guwahati Masters: Ashwini, Tanisha Win Third Title in First Year

The women's doubles pair of Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa secured their second Super 100 title with a straight-game win over Chinese Taipei's Sung Shuo Yun and Yu Chien Hui at the Guwahati Masters.
This was the third title for the world No. 28 Indian pair, which had clinched the Abu Dhabi Masters Super 100 and Nantes International Challenge this year (2023). Ashwini, and Tanisha, started playing together only in January this year (2023).

Travis Head Wins ICC Men's Player of Month Award for November 2023

Australian batter Travis Head, who smashed an explosive century to help Australia win their sixth ICC Cricket World Cup title, was named as the ICC Men's Player of the Month for November 2023.
Head beat tough competition from teammate Glenn Maxwell and India seamer Mohammed Shami to claim the honour.

Anurag Singh Thakur Inaugurated First-ever Khelo India Para Games 2023

Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Singh Thakur inaugurated the Khelo India Para Games 2023 in New Delhi.
More than 1400 players from states, Union Territories and Services Sports Board are participating in these Games between December 10 and 17 at three venues in New Delhi.
The New Delhi meet is the 12th event under the Khelo India umbrella. So far, five Khelo India Youth Games, three Khelo India University Games and three Khelo India Winter Games have been successfully conducted.
Khelo India Para Games 2023 sports list: Para athletics, Para shooting, Para archery, Para football, Para badminton, Para table tennis and Para weightlifting (powerlifting).
Three different Sports Authority of India (SAI) facilities – the Indira Gandhi Stadium, Shooting Range in Tughlakabad and the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium - are hosting the different events.

Italy Wins Admiral's Cup 2023 Held at Indian Naval Academy

The 12th edition of 'Admiral's Cup' Sailing Regatta concluded on 08 Dec 23 with a glittering closing ceremony at Ettikulam Beach at Indian Naval Academy (INA), Ezhimala, Kerala. Team Italy represented by Midshipman Avallone Antonio & Midshipman Creati Carlo Leonardo won the Admiral's Cup 23. Team India represented by Midshipman PPK Reddy and Cadet GY Reddy was the runners-up and team United Kingdom & Germany represented by Officer Cadet Lucy Bell and Midshipman Aaron Middleton from United Kingdom and Cadet Beckman Carl & Cadet Hinz Anton from Germany shared the third position. Seaman Gorkunov Petr from Russia stood first in the individual position in the men's category followed by Midshipman Avallone Antonio from Italy and Midshipman PPK Reddy from India at second and third positions respectively. Officer Cadet Lucy Bell from United Kingdom stood first in the individual position in women's category followed by Cadet Sangla Elma Salsadila from Indonesia and Cadet Jhanvi Singh from India at second and third positions respectively.

India Beat USA 3-2 to Finish 9th at Junior Women's Hockey World Cup

Goalkeeper Madhuri Kindo shone under the bar as India displayed remarkable resilience and eked out a 3-2 win over USA and finished ninth at the Junior Women's hockey World Cup in Chile.
The 2023 Women's FIH Hockey Junior World Cup was the tenth edition of the Women's FIH Hockey Junior World Cup, the biennial women's under–21 field hockey world championship organised by the International Hockey Federation. It was held in Santiago, Chile from November 29 to December 10, 2023.
Netherlands beat Argentina and won the Junior Women's Hockey World Cup.
