Justice Prakash Shrivastava New as the Chairperson of the National Green Tribunal
Justice Prakash Shrivastava, former Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court, was appointed as the new chairperson of the National Green Tribunal (NGT).
In July 2023, the Centre had appointed Justice Sheo Kumar Singh as the acting chairperson on the retirement of Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel.
Justice Shrivastava was the Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court from October 11, 2021, to March 30, 2023.
Justice Shrivastava enrolled as an advocate on February 2, 1987. He practised in the Supreme Court and was appointed as judge of the High Court of Madhya Pradesh on January 18, 2008. He became a permanent judge on January 15, 2010.
The National Green Tribunal is a statutory body in India that deals with expeditious disposal of cases related to environmental protection and other natural resources. It was set up under the National Green Tribunal Act in 2010. India is the third country in the world, after Australia and New Zealand, to set up a statutory body for environmental protection.

Actress Assault Case: Kerala High Court Appoints Renjith Marar as Amicus Curiae
The Kerala High Court appointed advocate Renjith Marar as amicus curie to help the Court formulate guidelines to ensure the safety of electronic documents in judicial custody.
The issue came to the notice of the Court while it was considering a plea moved by the survivor in the 2017 actress assault case alleging foul play in the investigation in the case in which cine actor Dileep is a key accused.
The Court noted that unlike most other cases, the memory card is the direct evidence in this case and, therefore, appointed Marar as amicus curiae to suggest guidelines to ensure safety of electronic documents in judicial custody.

ASG Aishwarya Bhati Named Member of Commonwealth Military Justice Body
Additional Solicitor General (ASG) of India Aishwarya Bhati was named a member of the global consultation group of the Commonwealth, an international body that promotes democracy, good governance, peace, and the rule of law.
ASG Bhati became the second Indian to be part of the global military justice body.
Advocate (Major) Navdeep Singh, practicing primarily at the Punjab and Haryana High Court, was appointed earlier this year (2023) to the five-member Military Justice Advisory Committee constituted by the Commonwealth Secretariat.
Bhati is a Senior Advocate, who practices primarily at the Supreme Court and the Delhi High Court. She represented the petitioners in the case that lead to the landmark judgment granting permanent commission to women armed forces officers.

The Collegium has consulted with Judges of the Supreme Court who were conversant with the functioning of the High Court of Kerala.
Justice C. S. Sudha entered judicial services in the year 1995 and was sworn in as Additional judge of the Kerala High Court on August 10, 2021.
The Kerala High Court Collegium had recommended her appointment as permanent judge on June 21, 2023. The Chief Minister and Governor of Kerala have concurred to this recommendation.

The Collegium of the Supreme Court comprising Chief Justice of India D. Y. Chandrachud, Justice SK Kaul and Justice Sanjiv Khanna recommended names of an advocate and a judicial officer for elevation to the Orissa High Court.
The name of Advocate Sibo Sankar Mishra, who is currently an Advocate-on-Record for the State of Odisha in the Supreme Court, has been recommended. He is also a counsel for Union of India and Orissa High Court in the Apex Court.
Similarly, the name of Ananda Chandra Behera, a Judicial Officer in the rank of District Judge, has been proposed for elevation to the High Court.
