Allahabad High Court Permits Parties, Advocates to Argue Cases through Video Conference

In a noteworthy development, the Allahabad High Court put in place facilities to enable parties and advocates to present and argue their cases before through videoconference with effect from September 12.
A press release was issued by the Registrar General of the High Court conveying the information.

2006 Mumbai Train Bombings: After Bombay High Court Rap, State Appoints Raja Thakare as Special P...

The Maharashtra government informed the Bombay High Court that Senior Advocate Raja Thakare was appointed as a special public prosecutor to represent the Maharashtra government in confirmation petitions and appeals arising from 2006 Mumbai train blast cases.
A division bench of Justices N. W. Sambre and Rajesh Patil had pulled up the government for its "lack of seriousness" on the issue.
Seven coordinated blasts ripped through local trains in Mumbai on July 11, 2006, killing more than 180 people and injuring several others.
Between 2006 and 2008, the Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) of Maharashtra Police arrested 13 members of the terror outfit Indian Mujahideen in the case.
In September 2015, the trial court convicted 12 of them, awarded the death penalty to five and sentenced seven others to life imprisonment. One accused was acquitted.

MoU Signed Between Supreme Court of India & Supreme Court of Singapore for Judicial Cooperation

India and Singapore signed a memorandum of understanding on judicial cooperation in the island city-state. Chief Justice of India (CJI) D. Y. Chandrachud and his Singapore counterpart Sundaresh Menon witnessed the signing of the MoU between the Supreme Courts of two the nations.
Earlier, Justice Menon had visited India and even sat on the Supreme Court of India bench in February 2023.
Justice Menon, who is serving as the fourth Chief Justice of Singapore since 2012, had attended a function to mark the 73rd anniversary of the establishment of the Supreme Court. Justice Menon was the chief guest at the function.

Justice Kaushal Jayendra Thaker Appointed Chairperson of Gujarat State Human Rights Commission

Former judge of the Allahabad High Court, Justice Kaushal Jayendra Thaker was appointed as the chairperson of the Gujarat State Human Rights Commission (GSHRC).
Justice Thaker, who initially assumed his role as a judge in the Gujarat High Court on May 4, 2013, was later transferred to the Allahabad High Court on April 11, 2016. After serving as a judge for nearly seven years in Allahabad, Justice Thaker retired on September 3, 2023.
Justice Thaker's appointment is for a period of three years or until he reaches the age of 70, whichever comes earlier. Alongside Justice Thaker, the Governor also appointed Bharatkumar Suryakant Upadhyay, a former principal district judge, as a Member of the GSHRC.

President Appoints 3 CAT Judicial Members for Srinagar, Jammu Benches

The President of India appointed advocates Mir Syed Latif and Rajinder Singh Dogra besides Sanjeev Gupta, District Judge, as Judicial Members of the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) Srinagar and Jammu Benches, respectively.
As per an order by the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, M. S. Latif was appointed for a period of four years from the date he assumes the charge of the post, or till attaining the age of 67 years, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
