ECI designed in-house software for complete Candidate and election management through 'ENCORE'

  •  The Election Commission of India (ECI) has developed an in-house software named 'ENCORE,' which stands for Enabling Communications on Real-time Environment. ENCORE is a comprehensive software suite designed for efficient candidate and election management, offering a range of features for smooth operations during the electoral process.
  • ENCORE provides a seamless and integrated platform for Returning Officers to manage various election-related tasks, from candidate nomination to voter turnout tracking, counting of votes, result compilation, and data management.

Jharkhand launches 'Abua Awas Yojana' (AAY) housing scheme

  •  Jharkhand Cabinet has recently approved ' Abua Awas Yojna ' (Abua Awas Yojna – AAY), a housing scheme designed to provide eight lakh pucca houses to homeless persons in the state.
  • With a total budget of Rs 16,320 crore, the scheme will be implemented in three phases, with a target to build 2 lakh houses in the current financial year, 3.5 lakh houses in FY 2024-25 and 2.5 lakh houses in FY 2025-26 will be kept.
  • Despite the existence of several housing schemes in Jharkhand, including the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin and Ambedkar Awas Yojana, these initiatives have been unable to cover all the eligible beneficiaries. Chief Minister Hemant Soren and Rural Development Minister Alamgir Alam had expressed concern that around 8 lakh eligible beneficiaries have been left out of the housing schemes due to discrepancies and errors in the identification process.

Uttarakhand CM Launches Nandagaura Yojana Portal for Girls

  • Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami launched the online portal of Nanda Gaura Yojana and Chief Minister Mahalaxmi Kit Yojana.
  • With the inauguration of the portal of Nandagaura Yojana, an online facility will be available to about 50 thousand girls every year to apply for Rs. 11 thousand on birth and Rs. 51 thousand on passing class 12.

Govt Introduces Shreshta Scheme for Quality Education of SC Students

  • In a remarkable move towards enhancing education and bolstering the socio-economic advancement of Scheduled Caste (SC) students, the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment unveiled the 'Scheme for Residential Education for Students in High Schools in Targeted Areas' (SHRESHTA). The primary objective of this initiative is to extend the influence of government development programs and address service gaps in regions predominantly inhabited by SC communities within the education sector.
  • SHRESHTA, designed to provide high-quality education to SC students, aims to create an environment conducive to their holistic development and secure their future prospects. The scheme's implementation comprises two distinct approaches. The first category includes top CBSE/State Board-affiliated private residential schools known as SHRESHTA institutions.
  • The second implementation approach relates to existing NGO/VO-operated schools and hostels. This approach is specifically intended for educational institutions up to the 12th grade that are managed by voluntary organizations (VOs) and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

Bihar govt announces 10% reservation for EWS in judicial services

  • The announcement came just a day after the government released the first set of data from the state's caste survey.
  •  Bihar government announced 10 per cent reservation for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) in the judicial services and state-run law colleges and universities.
  • According to the data, Extremely Backward Communities (EBCs) account for 36.01% of the population, while Backward Classes comprise an additional 27.12%.

GST Council hikes age limit for Appellate Tribunals' president

  • The tenure of the president of the Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT) has been increased to 70 years of age from 67 years earlier, revealed the GST Council in its 52nd meeting.
  • The Council also added that the members can hold their post till they attain the age of 67 years as opposed to 65 years earlier.
  • The minimum age for the president and members has been set to 50 years by the Council. Finance Minister Niramala Sitharaman pointed out that the advocates should have a minimum experience of 10 years to become judicial members.
  • The Council also provided a GST exemption on flour containing 70% of millet. The Council also decided to reduce the GST levied on molasses to 5% from 18% earlier. The Council also provided an exemption on alcohol for human consumption.
