IAF Takes Part in US-led Red Flag-Alaska for Multi-nation Military Drills

The Indian Air Force joined a 16-day multi-nation mega military exercise in Alaska in the US that is designed to provide realistic training to participating forces in a simulated combat environment.
The IAF deployed Rafale fighter jets for the `Red Flag' exercise in Alaska in the US from May 30 to June 14. Approximately 3100 service members are expected to fly, maintain and support more than 100 aircraft during the exercise.
The `Red Flag' exercise is designed to provide realistic training in a simulated combat environment enabling joint combined forces to exchange tactics, techniques and procedures while improving interoperability with fellow service members.

India Successfully Test-fires Rudra-II Air-to-Surface Missile from Su-30 Fighter Jet

India achieved a significant milestone in its defence capabilities as it successfully test-fired a RudraM-II air-to-surface missile from a Su-30 fighter jet of the Indian Air Force (IAF) off the coast of Odisha. The defence ministry confirmed that the flight-testing of the missile met all trial objectives, marking a crucial advancement in India's indigenously-developed solid-propelled air-launched missile system.
The RudraM-II missile incorporates state-of-the-art indigenous technologies developed by various DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation) laboratories.
Rudram is India's first anti-radiation missile (ARM), is an air-to-surface missile.
While RudraM-1 primarily aims at Suppression of Enemy Air Defences (SEAD), advanced versions like RudraM-2 and RudraM-3 are under development with ranges of 350 and 550 km, respectively.

Indian Army Partners with IOCL for Green and Sustainable Transport Solutions

The Indian Army collaborated with the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) for incorporating green and sustainable transport solutions in the force.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Army and the IOCL in presence of Army Chief Gen Manoj Pande and Indian Oil Chairman Shrikant Madhav Vaidya to take forward the initiative.
At an event, one hydrogen fuel cell bus was received by the Indian Army under the framework of the collaboration.

DRDO Chairman Samir V. Kamat Gets One-year Extension

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet granted an extension of one year to Samir V. Kamat, who is the Chairman of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
With this approval, Samir Kamat will hold charge of DRDO till May 31, 2025.

Govt. Extends Army Chief General Manoj Pande's Tenure by a Month

In an unusual move, the government extended by a month the tenure of Army chief General Manoj Pande who was to retire on May 31.
According to an official statement, the Appointments Committee of Cabinet approved the extension in service of Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Manoj Pande, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, ADC for a period of one month, beyond his normal age of superannuation (May 31, 2024), i.e. up to June 30, 2024, under 'Rule 16 A (4) of the Army Rules 1954'.
He was appointed as the COAS on April 30, 2022. He was commissioned in December 1982 in the Corps of Engineers (The Bombay Sappers). He held the appointment of Vice Chief of the Army Staff before taking over as the COAS.
The extension in tenure indicates that a decision on the selection of the next Army chief will be open for the next government.

Project Udbhav: Indian Army to Learn War Tactics from Vedas, Puranas, and Mahabharata

The Indian Army, under its initiative Project Udbhav, is delving into the epic battles of the Mahabharata and the strategic brilliance of past Indian dynasties, shaping India's rich military heritage. Launched last year, this project aims to enrich the nation's outlook in the defence domain by integrating India's ancient strategic acumen into contemporary military practices, making the force "future-ready".
Speaking at a conference titled 'Historical Patterns in Indian Strategic Culture', Gen Pande highlighted that Project Udbhav has explored ancient texts such as Vedas, Puranas, Upanishads, and Arthashastra. These texts reveal substantial intellectual convergences between eminent Indian and Western scholars, showing resonance between their thoughts, philosophies, and perspectives.

IAF Chief V. R. Chaudhari Inaugurates First-ever Emergency Medical Response System in Bengaluru

Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal V. R. Chaudhari inaugurated its first-ever Emergency Medical Response System of the Indian Air Force at Command Hospital Air Force in Bengaluru. The Emergency Medical Response System (EMRS), which was inaugurated, has been set up in order to provide expert guidance and definitive care during medical emergencies of serving personnel and their families of the Indian Air Force (IAF) across the nation.
