Lalit Kala Akademi Inaugurates the 64th National Exhibition of Art
The 64th National Exhibition of Art (NEA), organised by the Lalit Kala Akademi, India's National Academy of Art, was inaugurated in New Delhi with a grand ceremony that celebrated both India's rich visual heritage and its dynamic contemporary art landscape.
The prestigious event was graced by Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Union Minister for Culture and Tourism, Government of India, as the Chief Guest.
In a landmark move, the Akademi announced that the award-winning artworks at this year's NEA will be available for sale, a first in the event's history. This bold initiative aims to directly benefit artists and foster a culture of art acquisition in India.
Lalit Kala Akademi, National Academy of Art, New Delhi was set up by the Government of India as an autonomous body, on August 5, 1954. The Akademi was given statutory authority in 1957, under the Societies Registration Act 1860. Since its establishment it has been serving the entire country by promoting the creative endeavors of Indian artists and bringing their arts to bear upon a large number of people, thereby playing an important role in defining and redefining the sensibility of an entire culture, falling under the visual arts spectrum.
The 64th National Exhibition of Art is open to the public from August 6 to September 15, 2025.

Sacred Piprahwa Relics of Lord Buddha Return Home to India
The Government of India, in collaboration with the Godrej Industries Group, successfully repatriated the sacred Piprahwa relics of Lord Buddha to their rightful home. This historic cultural milestone, announced by the Ministry of Culture not only revives a deep spiritual connection but also establishes India's growing role as a global guardian of heritage and peace.
The Piprahwa relics, unearthed in 1898 by British civil engineer William Claxton Peppé at Piprahwa in Uttar Pradesh, are believed to be directly associated with the mortal remains of Lord Buddha. These sacred remains, enshrined by the Buddha's followers in the 3rd century BCE, have long been revered as symbols of peace, compassion, and enlightenment by the global Buddhist community.

Ministry of Culture Celebrates Rajendra Chola I
The Indian Ministry of Culture commemorated the birth anniversary of Rajendra Chola I, one of the greatest emperors in Indian history, through the Aadi Thiruvathirai Festival from July 23 to 27, 2025. The event, hosted at the iconic Gangaikonda Cholapuram in Tamil Nadu, celebrated 1,000 years of his maritime expedition to Southeast Asia and the construction of the UNESCO-listed Gangaikonda Cholapuram temple.
Rajendra Chola I (1014–1044 CE) succeeded his father Rajaraja Chola I and expanded the Chola Empire's boundaries beyond South India, reaching Southeast Asia, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives. Known for his naval prowess, he is credited with the successful Chola maritime expedition, which established diplomatic and trade relations across the Bay of Bengal.

Replica of Ashoka Pillar Unveiled in Waskaduwa, Sri Lanka
A replica of the Ashoka Pillar was unveiled at the Waskaduwa Sri Subhuthi Viharaya, a renowned Buddhist temple in Kalutara district, Sri Lanka. The initiative is a significant symbol of India-Sri Lanka spiritual and cultural diplomacy, acknowledging the contributions of Emperor Ashoka to Sri Lankan Buddhism. The foundation stone for the Ashoka Pillar replica was laid in January 2024 by Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha and IBC Secretary General Venerable Shartse Khensur Jangchup Choeden Rinpoche.
