Sai Paranjpye Named Recipiemnt for Padmapani Lifetime Achievement Award

Sai Paranjpye, a legendary director and writer in Indian cinema, is set to be honored with the Padmapani Lifetime Achievement Award at the upcoming Ajanta-Ellora International Film Festival (AIFF) 2025. Known for her impactful slice-of-life films such as Sparsh, Chashme Buddoor, Katha, and Saaz, Paranjpye is regarded as a pillar of India's parallel cinema movement, which gained prominence in the 1970s and 1980s. The award recognizes her extensive contributions to both Indian cinema and Marathi literature. The 10th edition of the festival is scheduled to take place in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar from January 15 to 19, 2025, where Paranjpye will be conferred with the prestigious award.

Shreya Rastogi Wins Prestigious Award by the New York Legal Aid Society

Director of Litigation and Forensics at Project 39A, Shreya Rastogi was awarded the New York Legal Aid Society's 2024 Magnus Mukoro Award for Integrity in Forensic Science for extraordinary accomplishments in the field of forensics.
Shreya Rastogi is a founding member of Project 39A, a criminal justice initiative at National Law University, Delhi. She is at the forefront of research and litigation efforts to ensure that scientific and reliable forensic disciplines are used in India's criminal justice system. She is the first non-American and the first Indian to receive this prestigious award that was instituted in 2015 by the New York Legal Aid Society (LAS).

Odia Poet Prativa Satpathy Receives Gangadhar National Award

The Gangadhar National Award for Poetry 2023 was conferred upon the renowned Odia poet Prativa Satpathy by Sambalpur University on its 58th foundation day. The award recognises excellence in the field of poetry and is named after the eminent Odia poet Gangadhar Meher. Over the years, many distinguished poets have received the award, and Prativa Satpathy is the latest recipient. This award aims to honour poets who have made significant contributions to the literary world.
The Gangadhar National Award, named after Gangadhar Meher, was established in 1989 and first awarded in 1991.
The award has been presented annually during the university's foundation day celebrations.

National Sports Awards 2024 Announced

The Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports announced the prestigious National Sports Awards for 2024, recognising outstanding sportspersons, coaches, universities, and entities for their exemplary contributions to sports.
Thirty-two sportspersons were named for the Arjuna Awards for Outstanding Performance in Sports 2024.
Sucha Singh (Athletics) and Murlikant Rajaram Petkar (Para-Swimming) were named for the Arjuna Awards (Lifetime) for Outstanding Performance in Sports 2024.

Biden Awards Liz Cheney, Bennie with Presidential Citizens Medal

Former Representative Liz Cheney, who bucked her Republican Party as a strong critic of President-elect Donald Trump and some of his allies, is one of the 20 people awarded by President Joe Biden with the Presidential Citizens Medal, one of the country's highest civilian honours.
The medal is awarded to US citizens who have performed exemplary deeds of service for their country or their fellow citizens.
Cheney, a one-time Republican member of Congress, served as vice chair of the House of Representatives select committee that investigated the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol by Trump supporters.

Magnus Carlsen, Nepomniachtchi Share Blitz Title

Magnus Carlsen and Ian Nepomniachtchi's decision to share the World Blitz Championship title for the first time in history sent shockwaves through the chess community, sparking widespread criticism.
