Santiniketan Recommended for Inclusion in UNESCO World Heritage List
Santiniketan, the place where Nobel Laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore built Visva-Bharati over a century ago, was recommended for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List by an international advisory body.
India has been striving for long to get a UNESCO tag for this cultural site located in West Bengal's Birbhum district.
Santiniketan in West Bengal was recommended for inscription to the World Heritage List by ICOMOS, the advisory body to UNESCO World Heritage Centre.
The France-based International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) is an international non-governmental organisation that comprises professionals, experts, representatives from local authorities, companies and heritage organisations, and is dedicated to the conservation and enhancement of architectural and landscape heritage around the world.
Visva-Bharati, the living university in Santiniketan built by Nobel Laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore, would be the first university in India to receive this honour.

Two Thousand Year-old 'Modern Society' Unearthed in Bandhavgarh National Park
Archeologists uncovered several archaeological treasures from the Bandhavgarh National Park in Madhya Pradesh. If reports are to go by, they discovered paintings, water bodies that are man-made, along with a few other pieces of evidence.
Revealing more about the findings, experts stated that the tiger reserve of the present day was once most likely part of an old trade route, through which traders passed and used the rock-cut caves as their shelters.
Archeologists also got hold of a 1,500-year-old rock painting, along with several man-made water bodies, which are believed to be no lesser than 1,800-2,000 years old, from the national park in Madhya Pradesh.
Referring to this, an ASI official in the know-how added that the presence of the water bodies built at a height and used for collecting rainwater suggests that the habitation had a modern society.
As reported earlier too, this zone has often made it to the headlines for what it holds and what gets unearthed from time to time.
Rajnath Singh Inaugurates IAF Heritage Centre in Chandigarh
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the first-of-its-kind Indian Air Force (IAF) Heritage Centre in Chandigarh.
Spread over 17,000 square feet, this is the first heritage centre of the IAF and depicts its role in various wars, including in 1965 and 1971 and the Kargil war, and the Balakot air strike through murals and memorabilia.
Divided into various sections, the heritage centre has several attractions such as aircraft models, aero engines and weapons, including Gryazev-Shipunov twin-barrelled guns.
The centre also showcases augmented reality, hologram, virtual reality, and electro-mechanical enclosures, interactive kiosks highlighting various facets of the IAF.
There are also flying simulators at the centre which will give flight experience to visitors.

Hinglaj Mata Festival: Famous Fair in Balochistan after Two-year Hiatus
The centuries-old annual Hinglaj Mata festival resumed after a break of two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic in Pakistan's restive Balochistan province and was attended by devotees from India and other countries.

Sinthan Snow Festival-2023 to Take Place at Sinthan Maidan, Kishtwar, J&K
The Sinthan Maidan in Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir hosted the two-day Sinthan Snow Festival-2023, organised by the Directorate of Tourism, Jammu, and Kishtwar Tourism Development Authority (KTDA). The event was a collaboration between the District Administration Kishtwar, the Jammu & Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages (JKAACL), and the Army, and drew both locals and tourists alike.
The festival showcased a variety of activities, including a Bike Rally, Paragliding, Snow Kayaking, Fun Snow activities, Local cultural performances, and competitions.

Three-day Heritage Festival at Saligao
The tourism department of the Goa government held the 'Heritage Festival 2023' from April 28 to 30 at Saligao village in North Goa. The festival aimed to promote cultural tourism in the state by showcasing its traditions, culture, and arts. The festival featured various performances, such as dances, heritage walks, culinary delights, musical shows, and more.
The festival was inaugurated by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant in the presence of Union Minister Shripad Naik, State Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte, and Chairman of Goa Tourism Development Corporation Ganesh Gaonkar.
