Retired Justice Alexander Thomas Named Chairperson of Kerala State Human Rights Commission

The Kerala Governor approved a recommendation to appoint former Kerala High Court judge, Justice Alexander Thomas as the Chairperson of the Kerala State Human Rights Commission (SHRC).
Justice Thomas was earlier recommended for the post by a three-member selection panel comprising Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Leader of Opposition V. D. Satheesan, and Speaker of Kerala Assembly A. N. Shamseer.
The post of Chairperson was lying vacant since another former Chief Justice of Kerala High Court Justice Antony Dominic retired in May 2023.

Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad Appointed Acting Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court

Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad taken over as the acting Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court after the Central government cleared his appointment
Justice Prasad took over from Chief Justice B. N. Sarangi who retired.
Justice Prasad is currently the senior-most judge of the Jharkhand High Court. He was appointed an additional judge of the High Court in 2014.
He was subsequently transferred to the Orissa High Court in 2015.
He was transferred back to the Jharkhand High Court in 2018.

Senior Lawyer Pitambar Acharya Appointed As New Advocate General Of Odisha

Senior Advocate Pitambar Acharya was appointed Advocate General (AG) for the State of Odisha.
A notification to this effect was issued by the Law Department pursuant to the order of Governor Raghubar Das.
The AG's position was lying vacant after Ashok Kumar Parija resigned in June 2024 after the loss of the Biju Janta Dal (BJD) party in the State Legislative Assembly elections.
Acharya is a Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader who had contested against former Chief Minister of Odisha Naveen Patnaik from Hinjili in 2019. He had also served as the party's spokesperson for some time.

Three Delhi High Court Additional Judges made Permanent

The Central government notified the appointments of Justices Girish Kathpalia, Manoj Jain and Dharmesh Sharma as permanent judges of the Delhi High Court.
They were appointed as additional judges of the High Court in May 2023.
With their appointment, the Delhi High Court now has 37 permanent judges as against a sanctioned strength of 45 such judges.

Centre Notifies Appointment of Justice D. Krishnakumar As Acting Chief Justice Of Madras High Court

The Central Government appointed Justice D. Krishnakumar, the senior most judge of the Madras High Court as the next Acting Chief Justice of Madras High Court. The appointment came after the Government cleared the appointment of Justice R. Mahadevan, the current Acting Chief Justice of Madras High Court, as a judge of the Supreme Court.

Justice Tashi Rabstan Appointed Acting Chief Justice of J&K and Ladakh High Court

The President of India appointed Justice Tashi Rabstan, senior-most Judge of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh as Acting Chief Justice of the High Court.
Justice Tashi Rabstan was appointed as Acting Chief Justice of the High Court upon elevation of Justice N. Kotiswar Singh, Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court as Judge of the Supreme Court of India.
Justice Rabstan graduated and also did an LLB from the University of Jammu (JU).
He was enrolled as an Advocate on March 6, 1990, in the Bar Council of Jammu and Kashmir and started practising in the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh and various other High Courts on arbitrations, constitution, service, election, civil, and criminal matters.

Supreme Court Gets 2 New Judges, First From Manipur

The Supreme Court got two more judges after President Droupadi Murmu cleared the appointments of Justice N. Kotiswar Singh and Justice R. Mahadevan. The appointments were announced by Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal.
The Supreme Court Collegium had earlier recommended the elevation of these two judges. With these two appointments, the Supreme Court has its sanctioned strength of 34 judges, including Chief Justice of India D. Y. Chandrachud.
Justice N. Kotiswar Singh was the Chief Justice of the High Court for Jammu and Kashmir.
He is the first from Manipur to be appointed as a Judge of the apex court. An alumnus of Kirori Mal College and Campus Law Centre, Delhi University, he started his career as an advocate in 1986.
Justice R. Mahadevan is an alumnus of Madras Law College.
