International Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSME) Day

The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) established International Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSME) Day is observed on June 27.
In its 74th Plenary on April 6, 2017, the United Nations General Assembly declared June 27 as Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises Day, recognising MSMEs' importance in achieving sustainable development goals and encouraging innovation, creativity, and job sustainability for all.
This year's (2024) theme for this day is 'Leveraging Power and Resilience of Micro-, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) to Accelerate Sustainable Development and Eradicate Poverty in Times of Multiple Crises.' This theme recognizes the potential of MSMEs to drive progress towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking

The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, or World Drug Day, is marked on June 26 every year to strengthen action and cooperation in achieving a world free of drug abuse.
International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is a United Nations observation that takes place internationally. On this day, the agenda is to advocate against drug abuse and the illegal drug trade. It has been observed annually since 1989. The date June 26 commemorates Lin Zexu's dismantling of the opium trade in Humen, Guangdong. This incident took place on June 25, 1839, just a few days before the First Opium War in China. The United Nations instituted the observation on December 7, 1987.
The theme for International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2024 is 'The evidence is clear: invest in prevention'.

International Day in Support of Victims of Torture

The UN International Day in Support of Victims of Torture is observed on June 26 to commemorate the day in 1987 when the UN Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment came into force. This convention is a crucial instrument in the global fight against torture.
The Torture Agreement, officially known as the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, came into effect on June 26, 1987. This marked an important milestone in recognizing the universal prohibition of torture. International Widows' Day

International Widows' Day was first established by the United Nations on June 23, 2011. The United Nations General Assembly officially recognized the day through a resolution, highlighting the vulnerable situation of widows, particularly in developing countries, where they often encounter discrimination, poverty, and limited access to resources.

United Nations Public Service Day

The United Nations Public Service Day is celebrated on June 23 of every year to celebrate the value and virtue of public service to the community; highlight the contribution of public service in the development process; recognize the work of public servants, and encourage young people to pursue careers in the public sector.
On December 20, 2002, the UN General Assembly officially designated June 23 as Public Service Day through the adoption of resolution 57/277.

The origins of World Rainforest Day can be traced back to 2017 when Rainforest Partnership, a non-profit organization committed to preserving rainforests and empowering local communities, founded the day. The inaugural celebration focused on the theme emphasizing the need for collective action to protect rainforests and restore damaged ecosystems. Since then, World Rainforest Day has gained momentum, with individuals, organizations, and communities worldwide joining forces to raise awareness and advocate for rainforest conservation.
The theme of World Rainforest Day 2024 is 'Empowering the World in Defense of Our Rainforests.'

International Yoga Day

Every year, International Yoga Day is celebrated on June 21. The day is dedicated to promoting the health and well-being of people through yoga. It is an occasion to raise awareness about the numerous benefits of yoga.
The United Nations established the International Day of Yoga on December 11, 2014, to raise awareness about the many benefits of yoga and to promote its as a way for a healthy lifestyle.
The proposal was first introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his address during the opening of the 69th session of the General Assembly.
The theme for International Yoga Day 2024 'Yoga for Self and Society', emphasises yoga's role in fostering individual well-being and societal harmony.

World Music Day

Also known as 'Fête de la Musique', World Music Day is celebrated annually on June 21 to promote the universal language of music.
The concept of World Music Day originated in France in 1981, when Jack Lang, the French Ministry of Culture, along with music composer Maurice Fleuret, and a radio producer and music journalist, proposed the idea of dedicating a day to music. The first World Music Day or Fête de la Musique took place in Paris in 1982, with over 1,000 musicians performing throughout the city.

World Hydrography Day

Every year on June 21, World Hydrography Day is celebrated globally, a special occasion dedicated to raising awareness about the significance of hydrography and the invaluable contributions made by hydrographers worldwide.
The establishment of World Hydrography Day can be traced back to 2005 when the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) recognized the need for a dedicated day to highlight the importance of hydrography and the work of hydrographers. The date of June 21 holds significance as it marks the founding anniversary of the IHO in 1921. By celebrating World Hydrography Day on this date, the IHO aimed to commemorate its establishment while also promoting international cooperation in hydrography.
The theme for World Hydrography Day 2024 is 'Hydrographic Information - Enhancing Safety, Efficiency and Sustainability in Marine Activities'.
