Indian scientist Samir V. Kamat Appointed as DRDO Chairman
According to a Personnel Ministry order, Distinguished scientist Samir V. Kamat was appointed as Secretary of the Department of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
Kamat, who is Director General, Naval Systems & Materials, at the DRDO will succeed G. Satheesh Reddy who has been named as scientific adviser to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

India's first-of-its-kind naval shooting range inaugurated at INS Karna
A first-of-its-kind, Composite Indoor Shooting Range (CISR) was inaugurated by Vice Admiral Biswajit Dasgupta at INS Karna.
The CISR is a state-of-the-art, self-contained, 25 m, six-lane, live firing range for all primary and secondary weapons in the Navy.
With advanced target systems and associated control software, this range would enable personnel to hone their firing skills, enabling them to challenge and take on adversaries in demanding scenarios.

India Successfully Test-Fires Short Range Surface-To-Air Missile
India successfully test-fired Vertical Launch Short Range Surface-to-Air Missile (VL-SRSAM) from the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur off the Odisha coast here. The VL-SRSAM was flight-tested by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Navy. The flight test was carried out from an Indian naval ship against a high-speed unmanned aerial target for demonstration of vertical launch capability.

Indian Air Force Reaches Australia With 4 Sukhois For Pitch Black Exercise
An Indian Air Force contingent has reached Australia for participating in exercise Pitch Black 2022 scheduled to be held from August 19 to September 8 in Darwin. The IAF contingent, led by Group Captain YPS Negi, comprises over 100 air warriors, deployed with four Su-30 MKI fighter and two C-17 aircraft.
India to Buy Six Tu-160 Long-range Bombers from Russia
India intends to purchase Tu-160 bomber from Russia, in order to boost its strategic force. America objected to its initial flight because of how hazardous this bomber is in nature. Tupolev Tu-160 bomber can reach a peak speed of 2220 kmph. The maximum weight that this aircraft can carry while flying is 110,000 kg. It has a 56-meter wingspan. Russia produces the tactical bomber known as the Tu-160 bomber. As a result, the bomber may carry out an attack at a distance of thousands of kilometres from its base.
The Tu-160 bomber is a tactical bomber made by Russia. Because of this, the bomber may launch an attack from thousands of kilometres away from its base.
Long-range cruise missiles and nuclear warheads can both be fired by strategic bombers.

Vietnam-India Bilateral Army Drill Concludes in Chandimandir
The Vietnam-India bilateral army drill, Exercise VINBAX- 2022, concluded at Chandimandir military station on August 18, with a demonstration of multi-agency humanitarian assistance in disaster relief and an equipment display showcasing the made in India products marking the final day.
The exercise commenced on August 1 and was focused on deployment of army engineer and medical teams in United Nations peacekeeping operations.
This is the first time ever that the Vietnam People's Army (VPA) was undertaking a field training exercise with any foreign Army, making the exercise unique.
