Maharashtra Metro, NHAI Create New Record for Longest Double Decker Viaduct

  • Team Maharashtra Metro & team NHAI achieved a world record in Nagpur by: -Constructing longest Double Decker Viaduct (3.14 KM) with Highway Flyover & Metro Rail Supported on single column pier.
  • Asia Book of Records and India Book of Records recognised this engineering feat. They also recognised another record of constructing three metro stations on a double-decker viaduct.

Akasa Air Gets Air Operator Certificate

  • Akasa Air received the Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from aviation regulator DGCA and will start commercial operations later this month.
  • The grant of the AOC marks the satisfactory completion of all regulatory and compliance requirements for the airline's operational readiness.
  • Following the government's initiative to usher in a new era of digitisation, Akasa Air is the first airline whose end-to-end AOC process was conducted using the government's progressive eGCA digital platform.

Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi Inaugurates Fifth Global Film Tourism Conclave

  • At the Novotel Mumbai Juhu Beach in Mumbai, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Union Minister for Minority Affairs, officially inaugurated the fifth Global Film Tourism Conclave (GFTC). In collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) organised the fifth GFTC with the subject "Unleashing the Power of Cinematic Tourism."
  • For Film Commissions, Tourism Boards, and Production Houses, GFTC offers a distinctive platform for promoting their sites, incentives, and services to the thriving Indian film industry. When a spectator is persuaded to travel to a specific site after seeing it in a movie, this is known as film tourism.

Choice Hotels Signs 15-year Master Franchise Agreement with Suba Group

  • Choice Hotels Asia Pacific signed a 15 year master franchise agreement with Suba Group of Hotels in India.
  • With effect from July 1, Choice Hotels in India would transit from a direct franchise market to a master franchise model. ET was the first to report on June 16 that Suba Group could take over as the master franchise for Choice Hotels in India.
  • Suba Group of Hotels said that it would assume responsibility as master franchise holder for the 58 Choice Hotels properties open and under development in India and hold the exclusive rights to develop the Clarion, Quality and Comfort brands in the market.

Growing Space Tourism Worsening Climate Damage

  • According to a study, the race for space tourism by Virgin Galactic, Blue Origin and SpaceX with several rocket launches is causing a bad effect on climate and increasingly contributing to global warming.
  • Researchers from the University of Cambridge and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) showed that black carbon (soot) particles emitted by rockets are almost 500 times more efficient at holding heat in the atmosphere than all other sources of soot combined (surface and aircraft) – resulting in an enhanced climate effect.
  • While the study revealed that the current loss of total ozone due to rockets is small, current growth trends around space tourism indicate potential for future depletion of the upper stratospheric ozone layer in the Arctic in spring.

UK Sandwich Chain Pret A Manger to Launch in India

  • A firm owned by Asia's richest person struck a deal to open outlets of the British coffee and sandwich chain Pret A Manger across India.
  • A unit of multi-billionaire Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries will run the chain under a franchise agreement.
  • It marks the first venture by Reliance Brands, which also owns India's biggest retail chain, into the country's growing food and drinks industry.
  • The first outlet is expected to open early next year in Mumbai.
  • Pret A Manger, which means "ready to eat" in French, was founded in London in 1983, with the first shop opening the following year.
  • After the original company went into liquidation the brand was bought by college friends Sinclair Beecham and Julian Metcalfe, with their first store opening in 1986.
  • The brand currently has 550 outlets around the world, across nine markets including the UK, US, Europe, and Asia.
