World Cancer Day

February 4 marks the annual observance of World Cancer Day, an international event aimed at promoting awareness and encouraging efforts for prevention as well as treatment of the disease — a leading cause of deaths globally.
World Cancer Day 2023 was the 23rd reiteration of the initiative started in 2000 by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), a non-profit advocating for integration of cancer into the world health agenda since 1933.
World Cancer Day was established on 4 February 2000 at the World Cancer Summit Against Cancer for the New Millennium, which was held in Paris.
The theme for World Cancer Day 2023 was "close the care gap".

World Wetlands Day

World Wetlands Day is celebrated annually on February 2 with the aim to create awareness of the vital role wetlands play for people and the planet. The proposal for the convention on wetlands was first made on February 2, 1971, in the Iranian city of Ramsar.
The awareness of World Wetlands Day started off in 1997. However, it was on August 30, 2021, that the United Nations General Assembly approved resolution 75/317 for World Wetlands Day to be celebrated on February 2.
The theme for World Wetlands Day 2023 was 'It's Time for Wetlands Restoration,' which focuses on the urgent need to prioritise wetland restoration.

UK Named Country Partner for BioAsia 2023

For the 20th edition of the largest event in the biotechnological industry of Asia, global business firm BioAsia picked the United Kingdom (UK) as its country partner. Eager to expand its relations with the Indian life-sciences industry, UK is home to over 6,330 businesses that employ over 2,68,000 people in the industry that generated £88.9 billion (`8.8 lakh crore) revenue in 2020.
With the theme of - 'Advancing for ONE: Shaping the next generation of humanized healthcare', BioAsia 2023 is all set to be held from February 24 to 26 in Hyderabad. Over the course of three days, prominent industry leaders, distinguished scientists, researchers and entrepreneurs will come together to discuss 'humanized' healthcare.

Indian Coast Guard Day

Every year, India celebrates the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Day on February 1. The ICG Day is observed to honour and pay tribute to the Indian Coast Guard Force who play a critical role in protecting the Indian Coasts and enforcing regulations in the maritime zones of India.
This year (2023), India observed its 47th Raising Day on February 1, 2023. Indian Coast Guard is the 4th largest Coast Guard in the world with approximately 158 ships and 70 aircraft in its inventory.
The interim Indian Coast Guard was originally established on February 1, 1977, to prevent the sea-borne smuggling of goods that hampered India's domestic economy.
On August 18, 1978, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Day was officially established by the Parliament to be celebrated on February 1.

Data Privacy Day

Data Protection Day, or Data Privacy Day, is celebrated on January 28. The aim is to create more awareness about the right to data protection and the various ways in which people can keep their data more safe. The world is slowly but steadily moving towards digitisation, but this also means our data is becoming more vulnerable. This year (2023), leading organisations are expected to invest heavily in updating more robust cybersecurity policies and procedures, enabling security automation, and monitoring attack surfaces.
The theme Data Privacy Day 2023 was 'Think Privacy First'.

International Holocaust Remembrance Day

The United Nations designated January 27 as the International Holocaust Remembrance Day in honour of six million Jews killed in the Holocaust and millions of other Nazism victims under the Hitler regime between 1933 and 1945.
The Holocaust, also called as the Shoah, was Hitler's "Final Solution" for eliminating Jews within Germany's grasp. By the end of the heinous act, around two-thirds of Europe's Jewish population had been killed, according to Holocaust encyclopedia.
The UN General Assembly in its 42nd plenary session adopted the 60/7 resolution and declared January 27 as International Holocaust Remembrance Day on November 1, 2005.
January 27 was chosen as the date as it was this day when the Auschwitz concentration camp, the biggest concentration camp in Germany was liberated by the Soviet Army in 1945.
The theme for International Holocaust Remembrance Day 2023 was "Home and Belonging".
