World Day of Social Justice

Every year on February 20, people mark the World Day for Social Justice. The main goal of the World Day of Social Justice celebration is to raise awareness of social injustice and to bring together diverse communities around the world in an effort to eradicate poverty, gender, physical discrimination, illiteracy, and religious discrimination and create a society that is socially integrated.
World Social Justice Day is marked to promote social justice and break down barriers based on gender, age, colour, ethnicity, religion, culture, or disability. Read this article to know everything about it.
The theme for World Day for Social Justice 2023 was "Overcoming Barriers and Unleashing Opportunities for Social Justice," which focuses on the suggestions made in the Common Agenda to promote international cooperation and to restore public confidence in the government.

Arunachal Pradesh Foundation Day

Northern States Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh celebrate their Foundation Day on February 20, since 1987. Arunachal Pradesh is the extreme northern part of the country, which is also known as the 'land of the rising sun'. The state at the edge of the Himalayas is proud to be called the land of dawn and lit mountains. Arunachal Pradesh became the 24th state of India.
Mizoram was declared as a separate UT in 1972 under the Northeast Areas (Reorganisation) Act, 1971. It became the 23rd state of India after the 53rd Amendment to the Indian Constitution, 1986. Mizoram, as well as the state of Arunachal Pradesh, came into existence on 20 February 1987.

Global Tourism Resilience Day

The United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution from Jamaica to declare the first-ever Global Tourism Resilience Day on February 17 2023, in an effort to future-proof the sustainability of tourism. The move to mark the day annually was supported by more than 90 countries. The UNGA invites everyone to observe February 17 as a day to raise awareness of the importance of sustainable tourism, in accordance with local, regional and national priorities and through education, activities and events. The first Global Tourism Resilience Conference was held in Jamaica on February 15, culminating on Global Tourism Resilience Day.
Resilience in tourism is a way to improve sustainability after an ecological or environmental disaster and offers an alternative to sustainable development, as a possible recovery from tourism induced stress.

International Childhood Cancer Day

International Childhood Cancer Day (ICCD) is observed on February 15 across the globe. The day was created by the Childhood Cancer International, an umbrella organisation of various child cancer support groups created by parents. The day is dedicated to raising awareness and showing support for children and adolescents suffering from cancer.
Childhood Cancer International was established in 1994. It is the largest patient-support organisation for childhood cancer in the world. The organisation consists of more than 170 different groups, including parent organisations, childhood cancer survivor associations, childhood cancer support groups, and cancer societies. International Childhood Cancer Day was created as an annual event in 2002 by Childhood Cancer International.
The three-year campaign for International Childhood Cancer Day began in 2021 and will conclude in 2023. The theme for the three-year campaign is 'Better Survival'. The campaign is part of the effort to reach the target goal of the WHO Global Childhood Cancer Initiative to achieve at least 60 per cent survival for all children diagnosed with cancer around the world by 2030.

India to Jointly Organize 12th World Hindi Conference in Fiji

India will organise the 12th World Hindi Conference later this month in Fiji.
As per Ministry of External Affairs Secretary (East), Saurabh Kumar, the 12th World Hindi Conference organised by the MEA in cooperation with the Fiji government will be held in Nadi in the South Pacific country from February 15-17.
A 270 member delegation from India will visit Fiji for the event and representatives from 50 countries are expected to participate in it.
Fiji is an archipelago of more than 300 islands in the South Pacific.
The decision to hold the event in Fiji was taken during the World Hindi Conference in Mauritius in 2022.
"The theme for the event is 'Hindi – Traditional Knowledge to Artificial Intelligence'.

Financial Literacy Week (FLW) 2023

RBI's 'Financial Literacy Week' started on February 13 and will last till February 17, 2023. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has been conducting this every year since 2016 to propagate financial education messages on a particular theme among members of public across the country.
The theme selected for current year (2023) Financial Literacy Week (FLW) is "Good Financial Behaviour – Your Saviour". The theme aligns with the overall strategic objectives of the National Strategy for Financial Education: 2020-2025 which aims at building financial resilience and well-being while creating awareness among members of public. Focus will be on creating awareness about savings, planning and budgeting, and prudent use of digital financial services.
Financial literacy is the ability to understand and effectively use various financial skills.

Sarojini Naidu's 144th Birth Anniversary

Sarojini Naidu was born in Hyderabad on February 13, 1879.
The Nightingale of India, Sarojini Naidu, has been immortalised in history. A prominent political leader, she worked tirelessly to advance the cause of women's empowerment and equality. In recognition of her contributions to women's rights and the Independence movement, Naidu's birthday is celebrated as Women's Day in India. On this day, events and activities are held across the country to honour Sarojini Naidu and to encourage more women to take up leadership roles and make their mark in their communities.
The world recognises Naidu for her literary accomplishments. She has authored poetry on subjects including tragedy, romance and patriotism. Prominent Indian leaders like Gopal Krishna Gokhale were admirers of Sarojini Naidu's poetry.
In 1925, Sarojini Naidu became the first woman to hold the office of President of the Indian National Congress. She also participated in the Salt Satyagraha. The British government imprisoned Naidu for 21 months beginning in 1942 for her involvement in the Quit India Movement.
As a passionate advocate for women's rights, Sarojini Naidu put up a valiant fight. She was one of the leaders of the Women's Indian Association, which was established to promote women's rights and empowerment.

World Radio Day

World Radio Day is celebrated every year on February 13 to mark the important role that radio plays in our lives and in society. The day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012, and its history can be traced back to the first International Radio Conference in Geneva in 1974. February 13 was chosen as World Radio Day as it was the day of the establishment of the United Nations Radio in 1946.
The radio was invented in 1895 by Italian physicist and inventor Guglielmo Marconi. He is credited with being the first to develop a practical and successful system of wireless communication, which laid the foundation for the widespread use of radio technology.
The theme for the World Radio Day 2023 was 'Radio and Peace' which aimed to focus on the importance of independent radio to foster peace and prevent conflict.

National Productivity Day

National Productivity Day is observed every year in India on February 12. The objective of the National Productivity Council is to stimulate and promote productivity and quality consciousness across all sectors in the country. The main observance of the day is to encourage all stakeholders in the implementation of productivity tools and techniques with contemporary relevant themes.
The day is celebrated by the National Productivity Council (NPC) to promote productivity culture in India. National Productivity Council (NPC) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry Government of India is a premier institution for propagating productivity movement in India. NPC works for providing solutions towards accelerating productivity, enhancing competitiveness, increasing productivity.
The theme for National Productivity Day 2023 was "A chance to set goals".

200th Birth Anniversary of Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati

Dayanand Saraswati born on February 12, 1824 was also known as Maharshi Dayanand.
A social reformer, Dayanand Saraswati founded the Arya Samaj in 1875 and led a reform movement within Hinduism. Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Dayanand Saraswati on the 200th birth anniversary of the social reformer, hailing his contributions towards the fight against social discrimination and untouchability.His views on women were also against the grain of orthodox Hindu thinking at the time. He campaigned for the education of women as well as against 'regressive practices' such as child marriage.
Dayanand Saraswati died under suspicious circumstances in 1883, after his public criticism of the Maharaja of Jodhpur. Some alleged he was poisoned by the Maharaja's cook.
