World Bicycle Day

World Bicycle Day is marked on June 3 every year to recognise bicycling as a way to get a sustainable form of travelling that also ensures one's physical well being. The day celebrates the tradition of cycling and its significant role in keeping our health fit.
World Bicycle Day was first marked on June 3, 2018, when the United Nations first adopted a resolution during the 72nd Regular Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York City in April. The declaration was adopted by more than 193 member states that encouraged them to include bicycles in regional, international, and subnational development programmes and policies.

Telangana Formation Day

Telangana, the 29th state of India, celebrated its formation day on June 2. The state was officially formed on June 2, 2014, and since then, the day is celebrated as Telangana Day or Telangana Formation Day. According to Telangana government, the day marks significance in the state's history for the sustained Telangana movement through the years. All 33 districts in the state honour the day by honouring the people of Telangana for their remarkable achievements in science, art and literature.
In 1948, India put an end to the rule of the Nizams and a Hyderabad state was formed. In 1956, the Telangana part of Hyderabad was merged with then Andhra state (carved out of Madras Presidency in October, 1953). The remaining parts of the Nizam's empire merged with Karnataka and Maharashtra. Andhra Pradesh became the first linguistically carved state in the country after Gandhian revolutionary Potti Sreeramulu, on a hunger strike over the issue, died on December 16, 1952.
After leading the Telangana movement to its desired end, Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao, popularly known as KCR, became the first Chief Minister of the state.

Global Day of Parents

The Global Day of Parents is celebrated annually on June 1 to highlight the important role of parents in the lives of their children.
The inception of the Global Day of Parents can be traced back to 1983 when the Economic and Social Council and the Commission for Social Development called upon the Secretary-General to prioritise family-related issues. Subsequently, in 1989, the United Nations General Assembly declared 1994 as the International Year of the Family, highlighting the significance of families. Finally, in 2012, June 1 was officially designated as the Global Day of Parents through a proclamation by the General Assembly. The inaugural observance of the Global Day of Parents took place in 2013, marking a significant milestone in recognising and celebrating the role of parents worldwide.

World Milk Day

World Milk Day is observed every year on June 1 to create awareness among people about the benefits of milk and its significance as a global food.
The day is recognised to highlight the nutritional value of milk and the dairy products, and their contribution in enhancing the livelihoods of people.
In the year 2001, the World Milk Day was first proclaimed by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. The event was started to showcase the importance of milk as a global food and to highlight the role of dairy sectors in promoting nutrition and supporting the livelihoods. FAO held its first ever World Milk Assembly on June 1, 2001 and that is why the World Milk Day is celebrated on June 1.
According to worldmilkday.org, the theme of World Milk Day 2023 is 'Showcasing how dairy is reducing its environmental footprint, while also providing nutritious foods and livelihoods.'

World No Tobacco Day

World No Tobacco Day is observed on May 31 as a global initiative led by the World Health Organization (WHO) to raise awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco use and to advocate for effective policies to reduce tobacco consumption.
World No Tobacco Day was established by the World Health Organization in 1987. The primary objective of this day is to raise awareness about the harmful effects of tobacco use and to encourage governments, communities, and individuals to take action to reduce tobacco consumption.
World No Tobacco Day has a specific theme that focuses on different aspects of tobacco control. The theme for World No-Tobacco Day 2023 was 'We need food, not tobacco.'

Goa Statehood Day

The smallest state by area, Goa is famous for its beaches and the relics of its colonial past. It got its statehood on May 30, 1987. It was a Portuguese territory since Alfonso de Albuquerque conquered it in 1510 by defeating Adil Shah of Bijapur who was ruling the region. 400 years later, India took back Goa from the Portuguese. In 2023, Goa celebrated its 36th anniversary of statehood.
May 30 is the day when Goa was declared a state separate from Daman and Diu. This took place in the year 1987 and since then, the day is observed as 'Goa Statehood Day.' After it received its statehood, Panaji was given the status of the capital of Goa and Konkani language became the official language.
