Gopal Subramanium Becomes Full Tenant at 3 Verulam Buildings

  • Senior Advocate Gopal Subramanium became full tenant and member of Three Verulam Buildings (3VB) barristers' chambers.
  • Subramanium has been an Associate Member of 3VB since 2013. He was also called to the Bar of England and Wales as a Member of Gray's Inn in 2021.
  • Trained under former Attorney General (AG) Soli Sorabjee, he was designated a Senior Advocate by the Supreme Court of India in 1993, one of the youngest in India's history to receive the designation. From 2005 to 2009, he served as Additional Solicitor General (ASG) of India.
  • Between 2009 and 2011, Subramanium served as Solicitor General (SG) of India. During that time, he was also Chairman of the Bar Council of India (BCI).

Supreme Court Reconstitutes Gender Sensitisation Committee

  • The Supreme Court of India reconstituted its Gender Sensitisation and Internal Complaints Committee, in accordance with the Gender Sensitisation and Sexual Harassment regulations of 2013. The reconstitution, initiated by the Chief Justice of India, appointed Justice Hima Kohli as the Chairperson, alongside Justice B. V. Nagarathna as a Member and Sukhda Pritam as the Member Secretary.
  • The 12-member committee headed by the Supreme Court judge Hima Kohli, also comprises Justice B. V. Nagarathna, Additional Registrar Sukhda Pritam and senior advocates Meenakshi Arora and Mahalakshmi Pavani.

Special Marriage Act union between Hindu and Muslim not valid under Muslim Law: Madhya Pradesh Hi...

  • The Madhya Pradesh High Court observed that a marriage between a Muslim boy with a Hindu girl is not a valid marriage according to Mahomedan Law while turning down a plea for police protection to register an inter-faith marriage under the Special Marriage Act, 1954.
  • Justice Gurpal Singh Ahluwalia noted that a marriage between a Muslim boy and a Hindu girl would be treated as an irregular (or fasid) marriage under Muslim personal law even if they married under the Special Marriage Act.

  • President of the Madhya Pradesh High Court Bar Association, Jabalpur D. K. Jain delivered a scathing speech criticising judges who take it as their right to disrespect advocates.
  • While speaking at a farewell ceremony held for Chief Justice Ravi Malimath, Jain took the opportunity to urge judges to not consider lawyers as inferior to them.

Central Government Clears Transfer of Two Delhi High Court Judges

  • The Central government notified the transfer two Delhi High Court judges who were earlier recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium.
  • The judges who were transferred are - Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva to Madhya Pradesh High Court and Justice V. Kameswar Rao to Karnataka High Court.
