The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) appointed IAS officer Ashwani Kumar as the Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).
Kumar is a 1992-batch AGMUT cadre IAS officer.
He succeeded Gyanesh Bharti, a 1998-batch Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre IAS officer, who was transferred to the post of Additional Secretary, Ministry of Women and Child Development, in March.

Tesam Pongte New Speaker of Arunachal Pradesh Assembly
Tesam Pongte was unanimously elected as the Speaker of the 8th Arunachal Pradesh Assembly. Pro-tem Speaker Ninong Ering announced that Pongte was elected unopposed as the Speaker of the Assembly.
Tesam Pongte is an Indian politician of the BJP in Arunachal Pradesh. Pongte, 49, who represents the Changlang North assembly constituency, was the Deputy Speaker in the previous Assembly. Pongte is an arts graduate from Rangfrah Govt College in Changlang. He hails from Laktong in Changlang district.
The Speaker of the Legislative Assembly is the presiding authority and highest authority of state legislative assemblies in India for carrying house proceedings. He is empowered to determine the status of a bill submitted to the house by the state legislators.

Dhankhar Inaugurates 'Prerna Sthal' in the Parliament Complex
Dhankhar stated that the 'Prerna Sthal' aims to inspire and motivate people.This comes amidst the Congress party's criticism over the relocation of the statues from their original spots.
Rajya Sabha chairperson and vice president Jagdeep Dhankhar on Sunday inaugurated the 'Prerna Sthal' in the Parliament complex. This newly established site now hosts statues of national icons and freedom fighters that were previously scattered across the premises.
The event was attended by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Rajya Sabha deputy chairman Harivansh, Parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju, and his deputies Arjun Ram Meghwal and L. Murugan. Information and broadcasting and railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw was also in attendance.

Joshimath Renamed as Jyotirmath, Kosiyakutoli is Now Kainchi Dham
The Centre approved the Uttarakhand government's proposal to rename Joshimath tehsil in Chamoli district as Jyotirmath, and Kosiyakutoli tehsil in Nainital district as Pargana Shri Kainchi Dham.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had announced the renaming last year (2023). It was a long-standing demand of local residents, who had raised the issue with the CM, citing Joshimath's historical and spiritual significance.

National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) launched a Mobile App 'NCRB Sankalan of Criminal Laws' to serve as a comprehensive guide providing complete information about the new criminal laws at one place. The New criminal laws will come into force from the 1st of next month (July 2024).
This App is a compilation of new criminal laws namely Bharatiya Nayaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam. It provides an Index linking all Chapters and Sections of the new laws. This App is useful for the General Public, Court Officers, Advocates, Law Students as well as for Police Officers in enhancing their knowledge about the New Criminal Laws. Sankalan app will be available for download on Google Play Store, Apple Store and its desktop version may be downloaded from official websites of MHA and NCRB.
