IAS Officer Ashwani Kumar New MCD Commissioner

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) appointed IAS officer Ashwani Kumar as the Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).
Kumar is a 1992-batch AGMUT cadre IAS officer.
He succeeded Gyanesh Bharti, a 1998-batch Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre IAS officer, who was transferred to the post of Additional Secretary, Ministry of Women and Child Development, in March.

BJP Names Incharges for Haryana, Maharashtra, Jharkhand and JK Elections

The BJP moved early to begin preparations in election-bound states and UTs of Haryana, J&K, Maharashtra and Jharkhand by naming incharges.
Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb are the election incharge and co-incharge for Haryana.
Union Minister G. Kishen Reddy was given the charge of Jammu and Kashmir with the Supreme Court earlier telling the government to hold elections in the UT by September.
Two Union Ministers Bhupender Yadav and Ashwini Vaishnaw are incharge and co-incharge, respectively, for the preparedness in Maharashtra where the BJP suffered a major jolt in the just-concluded Lok Sabha elections and the Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi government pledged to contest the Assembly poll together.
Agriculture Minister and former Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Himanta Biswa Sarma, CM of Assam, are incharge and co-incharge, respectively, for Jharkhand poll.

NDTV 24x7 is India's most watched TV channel, found the prestigious Reuters Institute at Oxford University in its latest report.
The report also listed NDTV's website as India's most popular news website.
NDTV topped the rankings of the Reuters Institute Report for the second year in a row.

India and US Strengthen Strategic Partnership in Critical and Emerging Technologies

India and the United States are forging ahead with their strategic partnership in critical and emerging technologies, as evidenced by the second meeting of the India-US Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET). This significant meeting, chaired by Indian National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval and US National Security Advisor (APNSA) Jake Sullivan, took place in New Delhi, marking a pivotal moment in the collaboration between the two nations.
Since the inception of iCET in January 2023, India and the United States have made notable progress in various key technology sectors. These include space, semiconductors, advanced telecommunications, artificial intelligence (AI), quantum computing, biotechnology, and clean energy.

Tesam Pongte New Speaker of Arunachal Pradesh Assembly

Tesam Pongte was unanimously elected as the Speaker of the 8th Arunachal Pradesh Assembly. Pro-tem Speaker Ninong Ering announced that Pongte was elected unopposed as the Speaker of the Assembly.
Tesam Pongte is an Indian politician of the BJP in Arunachal Pradesh. Pongte, 49, who represents the Changlang North assembly constituency, was the Deputy Speaker in the previous Assembly. Pongte is an arts graduate from Rangfrah Govt College in Changlang. He hails from Laktong in Changlang district.
The Speaker of the Legislative Assembly is the presiding authority and highest authority of state legislative assemblies in India for carrying house proceedings. He is empowered to determine the status of a bill submitted to the house by the state legislators.

Dhankhar Inaugurates 'Prerna Sthal' in the Parliament Complex

Dhankhar stated that the 'Prerna Sthal' aims to inspire and motivate people.This comes amidst the Congress party's criticism over the relocation of the statues from their original spots.
Rajya Sabha chairperson and vice president Jagdeep Dhankhar on Sunday inaugurated the 'Prerna Sthal' in the Parliament complex. This newly established site now hosts statues of national icons and freedom fighters that were previously scattered across the premises.
The event was attended by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Rajya Sabha deputy chairman Harivansh, Parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju, and his deputies Arjun Ram Meghwal and L. Murugan. Information and broadcasting and railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw was also in attendance.

Joshimath Renamed as Jyotirmath, Kosiyakutoli is Now Kainchi Dham

The Centre approved the Uttarakhand government's proposal to rename Joshimath tehsil in Chamoli district as Jyotirmath, and Kosiyakutoli tehsil in Nainital district as Pargana Shri Kainchi Dham.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had announced the renaming last year (2023). It was a long-standing demand of local residents, who had raised the issue with the CM, citing Joshimath's historical and spiritual significance.

Andhra Portfolios: Chandrababu Naidu Keeps Law & Order, Pawan Kalyan is Dy CM

Portfolios were allocated in Andhra Pradesh, two days after the Telugu Desam Party (TDP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government took oath of office in the southern state.
While Chief Minister and TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu kept Law and Order, among other portfolios, Jana Sena Party (JSP) chief Pawan Kalyan was given the post of Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.
Some of the other are: Payyavula Keshav - Finance, Planning, Commercial Taxes & Legislative; Anitha Vangalapudi - Home Affairs & Disaster Management; Satya Kumar Yadav - Health; Family Welfare & Medical Education, Nasyam Mohammed Farook - Law & Justice; Minority Welfare.

National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) Launches Mobile App 'NCRB Sankalan of Criminal Laws'

National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) launched a Mobile App 'NCRB Sankalan of Criminal Laws' to serve as a comprehensive guide providing complete information about the new criminal laws at one place. The New criminal laws will come into force from the 1st of next month (July 2024).
This App is a compilation of new criminal laws namely Bharatiya Nayaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam. It provides an Index linking all Chapters and Sections of the new laws. This App is useful for the General Public, Court Officers, Advocates, Law Students as well as for Police Officers in enhancing their knowledge about the New Criminal Laws. Sankalan app will be available for download on Google Play Store, Apple Store and its desktop version may be downloaded from official websites of MHA and NCRB.
