ASEAN to Take Part in IAF Drill

  • The Indian Air Force (IAF) will conduct its annual joint humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) exercise "Samanvay 2022" from November 28 to 30 at Agra.
  • The objective of the exercise is to assess the efficacy of institutional disaster management structures and contingency measures. It will comprise a seminar on disaster management and a "multi-agency exercise" involving static and flying aspects of several assets needed for the HADR operations.
  • ASEAN representatives and several stakeholders within the country will participate in the three-day exercise.
  • The armed forces, National Disaster Response Force, Defence Research and Development Organisation and Border Roads Organisation will also be part of the "Samanvay 2022".

INS Trikand, INS Sumitra Take Part in Bilateral Exercise with Oman Navy

  • The Indian Navy's guided missile stealth frigate INS Trikand and offshore patrol vessel INS Sumitra participated in the 13th edition of bilateral exercise 'Naseem Al Bahr' off the coast of Oman.
  • The exercise had three phases -- harbour phase, sea phase and debrief.
  • Activities undertaken during the harbour phase included professional interactions between Indian Navy and Royal Navy of Oman operations teams and friendly sports fixtures between the two navies.
  • The sea phase included tactical maritime exercise involving surface action, air defence, maritime surveillance and interdiction/VBSS.
  • The last phase of exercise, debrief, was conducted at the RNO Naval Base at Duqm.

Indian Navy Takes Delivery of Second Destroyer of Project 15B Mormugao

  • The second ship of Project 15B stealth guided missile destroyers, Y 12705 (Mormugao), being built at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL), was handed over to the Indian Navy, the Ministry of Defence said.
  • The contract for four ships of Project 15B was signed in January 2011. This project is a continuation of the Kolkata class destroyers, which were part of Project 15A and were commissioned in the previous decade. On November 21, the project's lead ship, the INS Visakhapatnam, was commissioned into service with the Indian Navy.
  • Designed by the Warship Design Bureau, Indian Navy's in-house organisation; and built by M/s Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd, Mumbai; the four ships of the Project are christened after major cities from all four corners of the country, viz. Visakhapatnam, Mormugao, Imphal and Surat.

Garuda Shakti: India, Indonesian Troops Engage in Joint Training Exercises

  • A contingent of Indian Special Forces held in a bilateral joint training exercise with Indonesian Special Forces in Indonesia, aiming at enhancing military cooperation and interoperability between the two sides. Garuda Shakti, the eighth edition of the series of bilateral exercises under this banner, is being held at Sangga Buana Training Area, Karawang.
  • The exercise aimed at enhancing understanding, cooperation and interoperability between the special forces of both the armies.

India Successfully Tests Intermediate-range Ballistic Missile Agni-3

  • India successfully test-fired intermediate-range ballistic missile Agni-3 from APJ Abdul Kalam Island, Odisha.
  • The successful test was part of routine user training launches carried out under the aegis of the Strategic Forces Command. The launch was carried out for a predetermined range and validated all operational parameters of the system.
  • Agni-3 is the third entrant in the Agni missile series and was first tested on July 9, 2006. But it developed a technical snag and had fell into the sea off Odisha coast without hitting the target. The missile is capable of carrying a nuclear warhead and hitting target 3,500 kilometres away.
  • The missile's strike range is between 1,000 km and 2,000 km, the Defence Research Development Organisation said.

South Western Command Conducts "SHATRUNASH" in Rajasthan

  • South Western Command of the Indian Army conducted Integrated Fire Power Exercise, "SHATRUNASH" at MFFR in Thar desert of Rajasthan in November. 
  • The exercise witnessed use of multi farious firing platforms in an integrated manner involving both ground & aerial manoeuvres.
  • Various actions included ion of troops, offensive ground actions involving comprehensive coordination incorporating contemporary technologies in a multi domain environment.
  • Real time communication and sharing of common operating picture amongst various participants to overcome emerging threats were practised & skills were honed.

IAF's Air Fest 2022 Organized at Head Quarters Maintenance Command

  • An annual show, Air Fest 2022 showcasing maneuvers of planes & helicopters in the arsenal of the Indian Air Force (IAF) was organised at Head Quarters Maintenance Command, Vayusena Nagar in Nagpur.
  • The Air Fest was conducted as a part of the 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav'. The objective of the Air Fest was to showcase various facets of Indian Air Force and motivate the youth of Nagpur to choose Indian Air Force for an exciting career.
  • During the show team of 4 Sarang - advanced light helicopters shown heart throbbing maneuvers like Dolphin lift, and crossover. These helicopters are indigenously manufactured by HAL-Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. The Surykiran Aerobatic Team (SKAT) also displayed exciting formations in the sky.

INS Trikand Participates in 'Sea Sword 2' Counter-terrorism Drill

  • INS Trikand participated in the Combined Maritime Forces led Operation "Sea Sword 2" in the Northwest Arabian Sea. The operation was held to prevent narcotics trade & stop smuggling entities from using the seas for their nefarious activities.
  • This edition also marked the 30th anniversary of the exercise and was hosted by the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF). This effort was part of the Indian Navy's commitment to ensuring the safety of the seas and collective security in the region as espoused by the SAGAR vision of the Honourable Prime Minister of India.
