Exercise Agni Warrior Concludes in Maharashtra

  • The 12th edition of a bilateral exercise between the armies of India and Singapore concluded in Maharashtra, and achieved its aim of improving interoperability between the two sides. The bilateral exercise involved showcasing joint firepower planning, execution and use of new generation equipment by the artillery arm of both the armies.
  • It also included participation by both sides in a computer war game as part of the joint planning process. Both sides utilised niche technology and artillery observation simulators as part of the joint training phase.
  • The closing event was witnessed by Wong Wie Kuen, High Commissioner of Singapore to India, Lt Gen S Harimohan Iyer, Commandant, School of Artillery, along with other dignitaries from Singapore and serving officers from both the armies.

Laxmi Singh Takes Charge as New Noida CP, First Woman Officer to Head Police Commissionerate in UP

  • Senior IPS officer Laxmi Singh took charge as the Police Commissioner of Gautam Buddh Nagar (Noida).
  • With the appointment, Singh became the first woman officer to head Police Commissionerate in Uttar Pradesh.
  • Singh, a 2000-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, replaced Additional Director General Alok Singh. The IG-rank officer is the second Police Commissioner of Gautam Buddh Nagar, where the commissionerate was introduced in January 2020.
  • She holds the distinction of being the first woman IPS topper (33rd rank overall) in the UPSC-held exams and was adjudged the best probationer at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad, as per official records.

Defence Minister Co-chairs 4th India-France Annual Defence Dialogue

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh co-chaired the 4th India-France annual defence dialogue with French Minister for the armed forces Sebastien Lecornu. During the annual defence dialogue in New Delhi, Singh and Lecornu discussed various bilateral, regional and defence industrial cooperation issues.
  • Notably, Sebastien Lecornu was in India on a three-day visit. Emmanuel Lenain, French ambassador to India, in a tweet, said that Rajnath Singh and Sebastien Lecornu discussed various issues, including Indo-Pacific, Make in India projects and joint drills. Lenain stressed that the two sides agreed to strengthen the defence ties between India and France and tackle common challenges.

India, Malaysia Begin Joint Exercise

  • India and Malaysia commenced a two-week-long joint military exercise "Harimau Shakti -2022" at Kluang, Malaysia.
  • The exercise is an annual training event between the Indian and Malaysian armies and is being conducted since 2012.
  • Combat-experienced troops of the Indian Army's Garhwal Rifles and the Royal Malay Regiment of the Malaysian army are participating in the exercise this year.
  • It is aimed at enhancing inter-operability in planning and execution of various operations in jungle terrain. The scope of this exercise includes field training exercise on sub-conventional operations in jungle terrain, joint surveillance centre, sharing expertise in employment of aerial assets, technical demonstrations, casualty management and casualty evacuation apart from planning logistics at the battalion level.

Indian Navy Launches New Survey Vessel 'Ikshak'

  • The Indian Navy launched 'Ikshak' at Kattupalli, Chennai, the third of the four survey vessels (Large) project, being built by GRSE/L&T.
  • The Launch Ceremony graced by the VAdm MA Hampiholi, Flag Officer Commanding in Chief, Southern Naval Command.
  • The contract for building four SVL ships was signed between MoD and Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata in October, 2018 for a total cost of Rs. 2435 crore. As per build strategy adopted by GRSE, first ship was built at GRSE, Kolkata and construction of balance three ships (up to outfitting stage) was sub-contracted to M/s L&T Shipbuilding, Kattupalli.

India, Australia to Conduct 'Austra Hind 22' Military Exercise in Rajasthan

  • The bilateral training exercise "Austra Hind 22" between contingents of the Indian Army and the Australian Army started at Mahajan Field Firing Ranges, Rajasthan.
  • Starting on November 28, the joint exercise will continue till December 11.
  • This is the first exercise in the series of Austra Hind with the participation of all arms and services contingent from both armies. The Australian Army contingent comprising soldiers from the 13th Brigade of the 2nd Division has arrived at the exercise location.
  • The Indian Army is represented by troops from the DOGRA Regiment. Exercise "Austra Hind" will be a yearly event that will be conducted alternately in India and Australia.
  • The aim of the exercise is to build positive military relations, imbibe each other's best practices and promote the ability to operate together while undertaking multi-domain operations in Semi deserts terrain under a UN peace enforcement mandate.

First ever Franco-India-German Military Exercise Slated for 2024

  • The first ever Franco-Indian-German military exercise is expected to take place in 2024. The drill will involve the militaries of the three countries.
  • Talking about defence cooperation between India and Germany, German Ambassador Dr. Phillip Ackermann said that the Franco-India-German military drill is set to take place in the years to come. Talks are going on. It is expected to be sometime in 2024.

Aero India 2023 to be Held in Bengaluru

  • The 14th edition of Aero India will be held in Bengaluru in 2023. However, with just over two months left for Asia's biggest airshow, the dates are yet to be announced. Dates for the airshow, which is usually held during February, are announced months in advance.
  • An official website, Aero India 2023, has gone live mentioning that next year's edition will be held at Air Force Station, Yelahanka, Bengaluru which has been hosting the airshow since 1996.
