Arjun Ram Meghwal Distributes Prizes of 25th National Youth Parliament Competition, 2023-24

  • The Prize Distribution Function of the 25th National Youth Parliament Competition, 2023-24 for Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas was held in January, 2025 at GMC Balayogi Auditorium, Parliament Library Building, Parliament House Complex, New Delhi.
  • The Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Law and Justice; and Minister of State in the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Arjun Ram Meghwal, presided over the function and distributed the prizes to the winning teams of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas for their meritorious performance in the Competition.
  • Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs has been organising Youth Parliament Competitions in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas for the past 28 years. Under the scheme of National Youth Parliament Competition for Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, the 25th Competition in the series was organised during 2023-24 among 80 Vidyalayas spread over 8 regions of Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, all over India.
  • In the function, Running Shield and Trophy for standing first at the National Level in the 25th Competition was awarded to Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Chandrapur, Maharashtra (Pune Region) by the Minister. Apart from JNV Chandrapur, Maharashtra, the following 7 regional winning Vidyalayas also received prizes from the Minister.

Mridangist T. V. Gopalakrishnan Honoured with R. K. Srikantan Trust Award

  • Renowned mridangist T. V. Gopalakrishnan was selected to receive the R. K. Srikantan Trust Award during the Sankranti Music Fest. This recognition celebrates his exceptional contributions to Indian classical music.
  • Rudrapatna Krishnasastri Srikantan (1920–2014) was a distinguished Carnatic vocalist known for his purity of rendition and adherence to traditional values. He was awarded the Sangeetha Kalanidhi in 1995 and the Padma Bhushan in 2011.
  • Established to honour the legacy of R. K. Srikantan, the R. K. Srikantan Trust Award recognises individuals who have made significant contributions to the field of Carnatic music. The award is presented during the Sankranti Music Fest, a celebration of classical music held annually.

Singapore Confers Honorary Citizenship on Tarun Das

  • Singapore has awarded its highest honor for non-citizens, the Honorary Citizen Award, to Tarun Das, former Director General of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), in recognition of his significant contributions to strengthening Singapore-India relations.
  • Tarun Das has been instrumental in fostering robust economic and people-to-people connections between Singapore and India over several decades. In 1993, he led a delegation of Indian industrialists to Singapore, marking a pivotal moment in India's "Look East" policy. This initiative laid the groundwork for annual visits by the CII Core Group to Singapore, facilitating continuous engagement between political leaders and businesses from both nations.

President Droupadi Murmu Confers Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards

  • President Droupadi Murmu conferred the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman awards during the valedictory session of the PBD Convention in Odisha.
  • A highlight of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) convention is the presentation of the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award (PBSA). As many as 27 individuals and organisations were honoured this year from countries like the US, Fiji, Guyana, Mauritius, Moldova, Myanmar, Russia and Saudi Arabia.
  • The Ministry of External Affairs had announced the names of the awardees for this year (2025). The awardees include among others Baroness Usha Kumari Prashar from the UK in the field of politics, Dr Sharmila Ford from the US for community service, and Dr. Syed Anwar Khursheed from Saudi Arabia in the field of Medical Science.
  • This prestigious honour is conferred upon Non-Resident Indians, Persons of Indian Origin, or organisations established and run by them.
