The 41st Indian Coast Guard Commanders' Conference Concludes

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the 41st edition of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Commanders' Conference in New Delhi. This three-day conference served as a crucial platform for ICG Commanders to engage in meaningful discussions on strategic, operational, and administrative matters amid evolving geopolitical landscapes and maritime security complexities.
  • Addressing the senior Commanders at the Coast Guard Headquarters, Rajnath Singh emphasised that the ICG is India's foremost guard, ensuring the security of the country's extensive coastline through constant monitoring of the Exclusive Economic Zone.
  • Throughout the conference, ICG Commanders interacted with senior military officials, including the Chief of Defence Staff and the Chief of the Naval Staff, promoting collaboration across the full spectrum of maritime security. The discussions aimed to evaluate key operational, logistical, and administrative initiatives undertaken over the past year, focusing on enhancing ICG's operational effectiveness and alignment with the government's vision of 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat.'

Air Marshal S. P. Dharkar Next IAF Vice Chief

  • Ace fighter pilot Air Marshal S. P. Dharkar was appointed as the next Vice Chief of Air Staff.
  • He would be succeeding incumbent Air Marshal A. P. Singh, who has been designated as the next Chief of Air Staff.
  • Dharkar-- an experienced fighter pilot with over 3600 hours of flying. He is an alumnus of the Rashtriya Indian Military College Dehradun, National Defence Academy Pune, Defence Services Staff College, Wellington and Air War College, USA. Commissioned in June 1985, he is a Qualified Flying Instructor, Fighter Strike Leader, and Instrument Rating Instructor and Examiner and has also been an Air Force Examiner.
  • He has instructional experience in conducting Professional Military Education for medium and senior level officers at the Defence Services Staff College and at the College of Air Warfare, Secunderabad.
  • He has served as Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Training) at Air Headquarters and Air Defence Commander at Headquarters Eastern Air Command.
  • He has the distinction of being the first Director General of Defence Space Agency. He has been the head of Eastern Air Command for the last two years now.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Inaugurates Sainik School in Jaipur, Rajasthan

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the Sainik School in Jaipur, Rajasthan, as part of the Government's plan to establish 100 new Sainik Schools in partnership mode across India. This initiative aims to blend public and private sector contributions to enhance education for future generations and foster patriotism among youth. Deputy CM Diya Kumari and Col Rajyavardhan Rathore (Retd.) were also present at the event.
  • The new Sainik School aims to provide both academic and values-based education, focusing on discipline, patriotism, and courage. Rajnath Singh noted the holistic development offered by Sainik Schools, which prepares students not only for military careers but also for other professions where they can serve the nation.
  • The Sainik School in Jaipur was established in collaboration with Shri Bhawani Niketan Shiksha Samiti.

  • Amid the growing tension in the Middle-East, Iran for the first time has showcased the Shahed-136B drone and Jihad ballistic missile.
  • The Shahed-136B drone is an upgraded version of the Shahed-136, with new features and an operational range of more than 4,000 kilometres (2,500 miles).

Lt. Gen. Asim Malik New DG of Pakistan's Spy Agency ISI

  • Lt. Gen. Muhammad Asim Malik was appointed as the new Director General of Pakistan's spy agency - Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
  • Lt. Gen. Malik, currently serving as an adjutant general at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, will assume his new role on September 30, replacing the current DG Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum.
  • The ISI chief is appointed by the Prime Minister but as part of a tradition he executes this power in consultation with the army chief.
  • The post of ISI chief is considered one of the most important in the Pakistan Army, which has ruled the country for more than half of its 77-plus years of existence and has hitherto wielded considerable power in matters of security and foreign policy.

Alok Ranjan New NCRB Chief, Amit Garg to Head Police Academy

  • Senior IPS officers Alok Ranjan and Amit Garg were appointed as the chiefs of National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) and Hyderabad-based Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) respectively.
  • Ranjan, a 1991-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre, was appointed as the Director, NCRB for a tenure up to his superannuation on June 30, 2026.
  • He succeeded his service and batchmate Vivek Gogia, who has been repatriated to AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory) cadre.
  • Garg, a 1993-batch IPS officer of Andhra Pradesh cadre, has been appointed as the Director, SVPNPA for a term up to his retirement on October 31, 2027.

World Boxing Champion Nikhat Zareen Joins Telangana Police as DSP

  • Nikhat Zareen, a world boxing champion and Olympic athlete, joined the Telangana Police as the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Special Police).
  • She officially took on her new role by submitting her joining report to the DGP of Telangana Police.
  • Zareen's new position follows her participation in the Paris Olympics. Competing in the women's 50 kg category, she lost to China's Wu Yu in the pre-quarterfinals. Zareen, who contested as an unseeded boxer, acknowledged that this was the hardest loss she has faced.

China, Nepal Armies Hold 10-day Joint Counter-terror Drills

  • According to the annual plan agreed by China and Nepal, the militaries of the two countries are holding 'Mt Everest Friendship 2024' joint army training. This is the fourth round of military drills between the two armies.
  • The drills aim to enhance capabilities in disaster management, humanitarian assistance, and United Nations peacekeeping missions, according to a statement from the Nepal Army Directorate of Public Relations and Information.
  • The exercise, taking place in Chongqing from September 21 to October 1, focuses on knowledge sharing in disaster management, counter-terrorism, and peacekeeping operations.
