PM Modi, Spanish PM Inaugurate C295 Military Transport Aircraft Setup

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Spanish counterpart Pedro Sanchez inaugurated a new facility in Vadodara, Gujarat that will produce C295 military transport aircraft. The first private sector facility to build military aircraft in India will get a boost as additional orders are being processed that will bring more work to the Indian defence ecosystem.
  • As per reports, the facility will produce a total of 52 aircraft - 40 for the Air Force and 12 for the Navy and Coast Guard. The additional order for 15 aircraft for the Navy and Coast Guard - 3 will be bought off the shelf and rest produced in India - has been okayed by the defence ministry and is being processed.

GRSE's Seventh ASW Ship, 'Abhay', Joins Indian Navy Fleet

  • The Indian Navy's seventh Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW SWC), named 'Abhay', was launched at M/s L&T's Kattupalli facility. Built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE), this vessel marks a significant addition to India's maritime defense capabilities.
  • The launch ceremony was overseen by Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (FOC-in-C) of the Eastern Naval Command, with Mrs. Sandhya Pendharkar, President of the Navy Wives Welfare Association (NWWA) Eastern Region, performing the ceremonial launch.
  • The contract for building eight ASW SWC ships was signed between the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and GRSE, Kolkata, in April 2019.

India-Germany Maritime Partnership Exercise

  • The Indian Navy and German Navy completed their inaugural Maritime Partnership Exercise (MPX) in the Indian Ocean, marking a key milestone in naval collaboration. Defence Ministry Signs Contract with Firm to Procure 6 Air Cushion Vehicles

  • The Ministry of Defence signed a contract with Chowgule & Company Pvt. Ltd., Goa for procurement of six Air Cushion Vehicles (ACVs) for the Indian Coast Guard at a total cost of Rs. 387.44 crore. These amphibious vessels, also called 'Hovercrafts', will be procured under the Buy (Indian) category.
  • These ACVs will be manufactured in India for the "first time in line with the 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' vision of the government, representing a pivotal step in the nation's shipping landscape.
