BEL Signs Rs. 2,906 Crore Deal with MoD for Indigenous LLTR (Ashwini) Radar

  • In a significant step toward strengthening India's air defence capabilities, Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has signed a Rs. 2,906 crore contract with the Ministry of Defence (MoD) for the procurement of the Low-Level Transportable Radar (LLTR) Ashwini. The radar, developed indigenously by DRDO's Electronics & Radar Development Establishment (LRDE), is based on solid-state technology and is capable of tracking aerial targets, including drones, helicopters, and fighter jets. This deal aligns with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, boosting indigenous defence production.

Ajit Doval Meets Tulsi Gabbard in Delhi, Chairs High-Level Security Meet

  • National Security Advisor Ajit Doval held bilateral talks with US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, and chaired a conclave of top global intelligence czars focusing on boosting cooperation in confronting various security challenges including terrorism and threats posed by emerging technologies.
  • The US director of national intelligence, Canadian spy chief Daniel Rogers, and UK National Security Adviser Jonathan Powell were among top global intelligence czars who attended the India-hosted security conclave.
  • As per reports, the top intelligence and security officials focused on sharing of intelligence and cooperation to tackle terrorism and threats posed by emerging technologies.
  • The meeting also focused on security in the Indo-Pacific region, cooperation to counter terror funding and money laundering and issues relating to extradition and immigration.

India to Host Regional Counter-terror Conclave

  • India will host a two-day conclave of 10-nation ASEAN grouping and some of its dialogue partners from March 19 to 20, 2025 that will focus on firming up a comprehensive strategy to combat the threat of terrorism and extremism. The conclave of the experts working group (EWG) on counter-terrorism under the framework of ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting-Plus (ADMM-Plus) mechanism is also expected to deliberate on the evolving regional security scenario.
  • The ADMM-Plus is a platform comprising 10-nation ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) and its eight dialogue partners -- India, China, Australia, Japan, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, Russia and the US.
  • The EWG conclave to be held in Delhi will be co-chaired by India and Malaysia.

India-Bangladesh Conduct CORPAT and BONGOSAGAR in Bay of Bengal

  • The 6th edition of the Coordinated Patrol (CORPAT) and the 4th edition of the bilateral exercise 'BONGOSAGAR' between the Indian Navy and the Bangladesh Navy concluded on March 12, 2025. The naval exercises were conducted in the designated maritime areas of the Bay of Bengal, near the Bangladesh and Indian maritime borders. These exercises were held under the supervision of Commander Flotilla West and aimed to enhance maritime security, strengthen cooperation, and combat various criminal activities at sea.
  • India and Bangladesh have been conducting joint naval patrols and exercises since 2018, reflecting their strong maritime ties. These exercises serve as a key mechanism for enhancing regional maritime security and ensuring the safety of shared waters. Over the years, both nations have improved their ability to exchange intelligence, conduct coordinated maritime patrols, and enhance operational interoperability.

Army, IAF Conduct Synergised Exercise to Enhance Interoperability in Jammu

  • Demonstrating joint operational readiness, the Army and the Indian Air Force (IAF) conducted a synergised interoperability exercise in Jammu. The exercise was aimed at strengthening coordination between ground and air forces, ensuring seamless integration of aerial and land-based operations in dynamic battlefield scenarios.
  • By refining joint operational tactics, this exercise reinforced the ability of both forces to respond swiftly and effectively to real-time challenges, particularly in high-threat environments.
  • Under the aegis of Tiger Division, the exercise simulated real-world operational conditions, with IAF helicopters executing a precise airlift of Army troops from a designated mounting base.

India Signs $248 Million Deal with Russia for Advanced Battle Tank Engines

  • India entered into a $248 million agreement with Russia's Rosoboronexport to procure advanced 1,000 horsepower (HP) engines for its fleet of T-72 battle tanks. This upgrade aims to enhance the battlefield mobility and offensive capability of the Indian Army. Additionally, the deal includes the transfer of technology to Indian state-owned Armoured Vehicles Nigam Ltd (AVNL) for licensed production of these engines, strengthening India's defence manufacturing sector.
  • This aligns with India's Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives to boost domestic defence production.
