DRDO Successfully Flight-tests New Generation Ballistic Missile Agni Prime

  • A new-generation ballistic missile 'Agni Prime' was successfully flight tested by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha.
  • During the flight test, all objectives were successfully demonstrated.
  • This was the first pre-induction night launch conducted by the users after three successful developmental trials of the Agni Prime missile, validating the accuracy and reliability of the system.
  • A number of Range Instrumentation like Radar, Telemetry and Electro-Optical Tracking Systems were deployed at different locations, including two downrange ships at the terminal point to capture flight data covering the entire trajectory of the vehicle.

Thyssenkrupp, India's Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Sign Submarine MoU

  • Germany's Thyssenkrupp (TKAG.DE) and India's Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders (MAZG.NS) signed an agreement to participate in a submarine tender by the Indian Navy that has a value of around $5.2 billion.
  • As part of the planned cooperation, Thyssenkrupp would take care of engineering and design, while Mazagon would be in charge of construction and the delivery of six submarines the Indian Navy has tendered.
  • Signing of the MoU took place in Mumbai in the presence of German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius, who a day earlier signalled that Thyssenkrupp was likely to bid for the project.
  • Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems has been seen as a preferred manufacturer for the project. The Kiel-based company is one of two submarine makers globally offering air-independent propulsion, a technology that helps non-nuclear submarines stay underwater longer.

Indian Navy Successfully Carries Out Underwater Test

  • The Indian Navy successfully carried out a test to hit an underwater target.
  • As per the Navy, the successful engagement of an underwater target by an indigenously developed Heavy Weight Torpedo was a significant milestone in the Indian Navy's and Defence Research and Development Organisation's (DRDO) quest for accurate delivery of ordnance on target in the underwater domain.
  • This was the second sea-level test in a fortnight.
  • The missile, known as 'Sea Skimming', hit the target floating in the sea from below.

  • In a historic moment for the Indian Army, Colonel Shuchita Shekhar became the first woman officer of the Army Service Corps to assume command of a Communication Zone Mechanical Transport Battalion. The battalion, responsible for the maintenance of the supply chain of the fully operational Northern Command, plays a vital role in army logistics, including animal transportation.
  • This milestone marked a significant step forward in the Indian Army's efforts to promote gender equality and inclusivity, even in senior positions.

Sixth Edition of India-Maldives Exercise 'Ekatha'

  • Indian Navy divers and Marine Commandos are in the Maldives for the sixth edition of Exercise Ekatha with Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) from June 4 to July 3. The annual exercise is conducted between the two forces to enhance interoperability in diving and special operations.
  • The fifth edition was held from September 5, 2022 to October 3, 2022.

Air Marshal Rajesh Kumar Anand Takes over as Air Officer-in-Charge Administration

  • Air Marshal Rajesh Kumar Anand, recipient of Vishisht Seva Medal, took over as Air Officer-in-Charge Administration (AOA). An alumnus of National Defence Academy, the Air Marshal was commissioned in Administrative Branch of the Indian Air Force as an Air Traffic Controller on Jun 13, 1987. He has undergone the Higher Air Command Course from College of Air Warfare and Area Control Course from the Singapore Aviation Academy.
  • In a career spanning over 36 years, the Air Marshal has held various field and staff appointments. Prior to his present appointment, he was Director General (Administration) at Air Headquarters, New Delhi.

Missile Specialist P. Upadhyay Takes over as Director General of Naval Armament

  • P. Upadhyay, took over as Director General of Naval Armament (DGONA) at IHQ MoD (Navy) from KSC lyer, who superannuated on 31 May 31, 2023. P. Upadhyay, belongs to 1987 batch of Indian Naval Armament Service. He joined Naval Armament Organization of Indian Navy on Jul 12, 1989. An Electrical Engineering Graduate from SGSITS Indore, he earned his Post Graduate degrees from Devi Ahilya University in Electrical Engineering with specialization in 'Digital Techniques and Instrumentation' in 1988 and in Mechanical Engineering from University of Pune with specialisation in 'Guided Missiles', in 1995. In a span of 34 years, he has held various important assignments at NAD (Visakhapatnam), NAD (Karanja), NAD (Trombay), NAD (Alwaye) and IHQ, MoD (N). He is an alumnus of Naval Defence College of NDC-53.
  • The officer specialises in Missile and Torpedo Maintenance besides having vast knowledge on disposal of ammunition.
