Maldives and Seychelles to Cooperate on Security Issues

Maldives and Seychelles decided to collaborate in addressing shared security concerns in the Indian Ocean Region, a development that would complement India's efforts to ensure peace and stability in the vast geographical area.
The decision was announced in a joint statement, as part of Seychelles' President Wavel Ramkalawan's official visit to the Maldives.
India shares close security partnership with both Maldives and Seychelles and the two countries, along with Mauritius and Sri Lanka, are key pillars of India's security architecture in the western and southern Indian Ocean Region.

Anti-submarine Warfare Ship 'Anjadip' Built for Navy Launched

An anti-submarine warfare shallow water craft vessel built by Kolkata-based Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE), for the Navy was launched at the Larsen and Toubro, Kattupalli Port. Anjadip, is the third of the eight ships of the contract that was signed between Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers, Kolkata and Ministry of Defence in April 2019.
The vessel was named after the island of Anjadip located off Karwar Port, Karnataka signifying its strategic maritime importance.
The 'Arnala' class of ships built by GRSE would replace the current 'Abhay' class of anti-submarine warfare corvettes of the Navy and are designed to undertake anti-submarine operations in coastal waters, low intensity maritime operations, subsurface surveillance among others.
As per the contract, four ships are built by GRSE, Kolkata while the remaining four ships have been subcontracted to Larsen and Toubro, Shipbuilding, Kattupalli.

Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare Signs an MoU with Private Sector

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Directorate General Resettlement DGR under the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare in the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and M/s Kotak Mahindra Life Insurance Company Limited in New Delhi. The MoU endeavours to bring the corporate companies and Ex-Servicemen on a common platform to generate employment opportunities for the esteemed ex-servicemen of the Defence Services.
Director General (Resettlement) Major General Sharad Kapur said that this partnership will bring in more visibility of the ex-servicemen to the industry and corporates and help in achieving the objectives of providing skilled manpower and giving a dignified second career to the ex-servicemen.

IPS Officer Nitin Agarwal New BSF Chief

Nitin Agarwal, a 1989-batch IPS officer of Kerala cadre, was appointed as the new Director General of the Border Security Force (BSF).
The post of BSF chief has been vacant for more than five months after Pankaj Kumar Singh retired on December 31, 2022.
CRPF DG Sujoy Lal Thaosen was handling the charge of BSF in an additional capacity since then.
Agarwal has served in the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), another border guarding force under the command of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), apart from working in various capacities in his cadre state of Kerala.

Eastern Naval Command Chief Reviews Passing Out Parade, Awards 'Wings' to Pilots

Vice Admiral Biswajit Dasgupta, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (FOC-in-C), Eastern Naval Command (ENC) reviewed the Passing out Parade for the 100th Helicopter Conversion Course and awarded the coveted 'Golden Wings' to the newly inducted pilots, at INS Rajali at Arakkonam in Tamil Nadu. The seminal event marked the successful completion of training for 16 pilots from the 100th Course conducted at Helicopter Training School (HTS), INAS 561. This included 4 pilots who underwent the first ever Basic Helicopter Conversion Course (BHCC) (Stage 1 training) conducted by the Indian Navy, which earlier was conducted entirely by the IAF.

Indian Army Gets New DGs of Intelligence, Information Warfare and Strategic Planning

In a major reshuffle at the senior level, the Indian Army got its new Directorate heads which includes the new Directorate General (DG) of Military Intelligence (MI). They all took charge in the Army Headquarters, New Delhi.
Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) R. S. Raman assumed the charge of DG MI along with Lt Gen Raju Baijal and Lt Gen Rajeev Puri who joined as the new DGs Strategic Planning and Information Warfare, respectively.
Lt Gen Rakesh Kapoor took charge as the new DCoAS (IS&W) at New Delhi-based Army Headquarters. He was the Commander in Chief of the Jodhpur-based XII Corps. Lt Gen Mohit Malhotra, who was the Additional DG of Public Information, took charge as the XII Corps Commander.

India, France, UAE Conclude Maiden Joint Maritime Exercise in the Gulf of Oman

The first India-France-UAE Maritime Partnership Exercise concluded in the Gulf of Oman. The exercise involved the Indian Navy frigate INS Tarkash, the French Navy ship Surcouf along with Rafale fighter jets, and UAE Navy maritime patrol aircraft.
The two-day exercise involved a wide range of naval operations, including surface warfare, helicopter cross-deck landing operations, advanced air defense exercises, and boarding operations. The exercise also included cross-embarkation of personnel to exchange best practices.
As per the defence ministry, the first India-France-UAE Maritime Partnership Exercise aimed to improve trilateral cooperation between the three navies and develop joint strategies for addressing traditional and non-traditional threats in the maritime environment.

Germany Prepares to Host "Air Defender 2023" NATO's Biggest Ever Air Exercise

Germany is preparing to host the biggest air deployment exercise in NATO's history, a show of force intended to impress allies and potential adversaries such as Russia. The Air Defender 23 exercise to be held from June 12-24, 2023 will see 10,000 participants and 250 aircraft from 25 nations respond to a simulated attack on a NATO member country. The United States alone is sending 2,000 U.S. Air National Guard personnel and about 100 aircraft to take part in the training maneuvers.
Germany's military has warned the huge air force drill will have an impact on people using civil airlines in Europe. While the exercise was planned for several years, Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 has jolted NATO into preparing in earnest for the possibility of an attack on its territory. Sweden, which is hoping to join the alliance, and Japan are also taking part in the exercise.
The exercise will be held across Germany, with some of the training taking place at Ramstein Air Base, which is one of NATO's largest air bases. The exercise will focus on a variety of air defense and air interoperability topics, including: Airspace surveillance and control, Air interdiction, Air combat maneuvering, Air refuelling, Command and control, and Logistics.
Air Defender 2023 is a significant event, and it is a sign of NATO's commitment to the defense of its members. The exercise will help to ensure that NATO is ready to meet any challenge to its security.
