  • The Punjab Cabinet under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann approved new industrial and electric vehicle policies.
  • The approval of both the policies came days ahead of an investors' summit to be organised by the state government on February 23-24 in Mohali.

Government Extends PM-KUSUM Scheme till March 2026

  • The government extended PM-KUSUM scheme till March 2026 as its implementation was significantly affected due to the pandemic.
  • Launched in 2019, Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) is aimed at adding solar capacity of 30,800 MW by 2022 with total central financial support of Rs. 34,422 crore, including service charges to the implementing agencies.
  • The scheme consists of three components—Component A is for installation of 10,000 MW of solar capacity by installing small power plants of capacity up to 2 MW, component B aims at installation of 20 lakh standalone solar-powered agriculture pumps and component C is for solarisation of 15 lakh grid-connected agriculture pumps.

Amrit Dharohar Scheme

  • Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's budget speech introduced schemes and policies aimed at ecological conservation. Targeting an array of different issues, these schemes come with the promise of preserving India's ecological health.
  • This is part of a larger "green push" with focus on the environment and climate change.
  • One of the schemes is the Amrit Dharohar scheme that will be implemented over the next three years to encourage optimal use of wetlands, and enhance bio-diversity, carbon stock, eco-tourism opportunities and income generation for local communities.
  • Amrit Dharohar will emphasise on the importance of wetlands and their preservation, with an outlook that is inclusive of local communities as caretakers of the ecosystem.

Madhya Pradesh CM Launches Ladli Bahina Scheme

  • Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that his government will launch a new scheme 'Ladli Bahina' to provide Rs. 1,000 per month to women from financially poor background in the state, where the Assembly polls are due this year-end.
  • A sum of Rs. 60,000 crore will be spent on this scheme in five years.
  • As per Chouhan, poor women from all sections can benefit from this scheme even if they have been receiving benefits of other welfare programmes.

Uttar Pradesh Govt. Launches Campaign to Empower Underprivileged Girls

  • The Uttar Pradesh government launched a campaign to empower girls from the underprivileged class.
  • The Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan will work under the Aarohini Initiative Training Programme for the safety and security of girls in 746 Kasturba Gandhi Residential Girls Schools in the state.
  • Director General of School Education Vijay Kiran Anand said that the main objective of the Aarohini programme, which will be implemented in three phases, is gender sensitisation.
