Telangana Achieves 100% Coverage of PMJDY

  • Telangana achieved a significant milestone in financial inclusion by attaining 100% coverage of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY). Since the launch of this national mission, the state has made remarkable progress in extending banking services to all sections of the population.
  • Empowering every unbanked adult the PMJDY is a National Mission for Financial Inclusion that aims to provide affordable access to financial services such as banking, savings and deposit accounts, remittance, credit, insurance, and pension. It serves as the foundation stone for people-centric economic initiatives, including Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), COVID-19 financial assistance, PM-KISAN, and increased wages under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA). The primary objective of PMJDY is to ensure that every adult in India has a bank account, facilitating their participation in the formal financial system.

Madhya Pradesh First State to Provide Air Travel for Pilgrims under Mukhyamantri Teerthdarshan Yo...

  • Madhya Pradesh became the first State in India to send elderly people on pilgrimage by air under the Mukhyamantri Teerthdarshan Yojana.
  • The first batch of pilgrims took off from the Bhopal airport to visit Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh. The pilgrims include 24 men and eight women.
  • The Mukhyamantri Teerth Darshan Yojana is one of the flagship schemes of the BJP government in the state.
  • The scheme was introduced in the year 2012. So far, more than 7.80 lakh elderly persons have undertaken pilgrimage by special trains.

Kerala Government Approves Ordinance to Protect Healthcare Workers

  • In the wake of the brutal killing of a woman doctor by her drunken patient in the state, the Kerala government approved an ordinance aimed at protecting doctors, healthcare workers, and medical students. The ordinance specifies jail terms for people involved in violence against medical practitioners.
  • The Kerala Health Care Service Workers and Health Care Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage to Property) Amendment Ordinance, 2012, was approved by the state Cabinet at a chaired by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
  • Under the ordinance, the protection under the law would be extended to the paramedical students also.
  • Besides that, paramedical staff, security guards, managerial staff, ambulance drivers, helpers who are posted and working in health care institutions and health workers notified in the official government gazette from time to time was also included in the ordinance.
  • Under the ordinance, anyone found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm to any healthcare worker or professional would be punished with imprisonment ranging from one year to seven years and a fine between Rs. 1 lakh to Rs. 5 lakh would be imposed upon them.
  • The ordinance also provides that anyone who commits or attempts to commit or incites or inspires an act of violence against healthcare workers or those working in healthcare institutions, shall be punished with imprisonment for a term not less than 6 months and up to 5 years and with a fine between Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 2 lakh.

Kerala Launches Welfare Fund for Workers under Employment Guarantee Scheme

  • In a first in the country, the Kerala government launched a welfare fund for Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) workers in the State. Launching the initiative, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the workers who have completed the age of 60 will be entitled for pension under the fund which will also provide financial assistance for medical treatment, education, marriage, among other benefits.
  • The welfare fund has been formed as per the Kerala Employment Guarantee Workers' Welfare Fund Act, 2021.
  • The Chief Minister said under the scheme, a family gets an average of 50 days of work at national level whereas in Kerala an average of 64 days of work was being provided.

MP Launches Interest Waiver Scheme for 11L Farmers

  • Ahead of Madhya Pradesh elections later this year, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan launched a scheme to waive Rs. 2,200 crore worth of interest due from 11 lakh farmers who have defaulted on loans.
  • The waived interest will be reimbursed by the state.
  • Under the CM Farm Loan Waiver Scheme 2023, the BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh will accept applications from defaulter farmers and pay the due amount.
