Madhya Pradesh Govt. Approves Cooperative Policy with Focus on Jobs

  • A cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan approved the Co-operative Policy 2023, with a focus to create jobs in the sector.
  • The policy emphasises on preparing and implementing the public co-operative partnership (PCP) model in the sector, which means co-operative organisations will work in collaboration with government bodies.
  • The state government is planning to use co-operatives as a medium to provide employment to the youth of Madhya Pradesh. In a bid to enhance self-employment opportunities, co-operatives will be formed in agriculture, health care, food processing, animal husbandry, water conservation, new and renewable energy, tourism, minerals, agricultural equipment, organic products, and other sectors and they will be linked to various government schemes.

Karnataka to Withdraw Anti-conversion Law

  • The Siddaramaiah-led government in Karnataka decided to repeal the controversial anti-conversion law passed during the previous BJP regime. The state government arrived at the decision after the cabinet meeting.
  • This came after the Congress government hinted to review decisions taken under the earlier BJP rule, including one to look into any land allotments made to right-wing groups under their regime and others such as textbook revisions and the hijab ban.
  • The Protection of Right to Freedom of Religion Bill, 2021, or anti-conversion bill was passed in September 2022 in the Karnataka Legislative Council, when the then opposition Congress had staged a walkout.
  • The withdrawal of this controversial law was also mentioned in the Congress' manifesto before assembly elections in the southern state.

Amit Shah Announces 3 major Disaster Management Schemes

  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced three major schemes worth over Rs. 8,000 crore that would cover the modernisation of fire brigade services in all states, flood mitigation in 7 major cities and prevention of landslides in 17 states.
  • He was addressing a meeting of the ministers of disaster management of states and Union Territories in New Delhi.
  • To mitigate the danger of floods in urban areas, in seven major cities, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and Pune, Rs. 2,500 crore will be disbursed.
  • To deal with landslides in 17 states, almost Rs 825 crore will be given by the central government.
  • For the modernisation and expansion of fire brigade services, about Rs. 5,000 crore assistance will be given to all states.

Kerala Govt. Offers Rewards to People Who Report Illegal Waste Dumping Incidents

  • With the menace of dumping waste by people on roads and open public spaces, the Kerala government came up with a novel scheme to reward all those who report such acts and earn up to Rs. 2,500 for each reporting. This is part of the 'Malinya Muktham Nava Keralam' campaign to make the state garbage-free.
  • The report must be backed with evidence, including credible photograph or video clip, along with details such as the place and time of the wrong-doing.

Uttar Pradesh Govt. Launches Nand Baba Milk Mission Scheme

  • In a bid to make Uttar Pradesh a leading state in the field of milk development and milk production, the state government launched the Nand Baba Milk Mission scheme at a cost of Rs. 1,000 crore. The Nand Baba Milk Mission scheme, which was launched has been implemented to provide milk producers the facility of selling their milk at a reasonable price in villages through dairy co-operative societies.
