Popular artist B. K. S. Verma passed awa. Known for his romantic style of art, he was also popular for his stage shows, where he painted to poetry rendering or a dance performance before an audience.
Verma was born in Karnur village, Attibele, on the outskirts of Bengaluru in 1949 in a family of artists. His father was a musician and his mother a painter.
He was trained in art by the legendary art teacher A.N. Subbarao.
He was awarded the Rajyotsava Award in 2001 and an honorary doctorate by Bangalore University in 2011.

Pervez Musharraf, Pakistan's Former President, Passes Away
Pakistan's former President Pervez Musharraf, a four-star general who seized power through a coup in 1999 after the Kargil war and later became an important ally in the US war in Afghanistan, died at a Dubai hospital after a long illness. He was 79.
Musharraf was in self-imposed exile in Dubai since March 2016 and was facing a treason case for suspending the Constitution in 2007. He was also declared a fugitive in cases related to the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and the siege of the Lal Masjid.
Coming to power after a military takeover of the Nawaz Sharif government in 1999, Musharraf served first as 'Chief Executive', before going on to become Pakistan's tenth President in June 2001. He stepped down in August 2008 after facing a possible impeachment.
Veteran Playback Singer, Vani Jayaram Passes Away
Padma Bhushan awardee Vani Jairam was found dead at her residence in Chennai. She was 78. The singer was awarded Padma Bhushan by the Government of India ahead of Republic Day 2023. The news of her sudden demise sent shockwaves across the country. She was known for recording over 10,000 songs in her career.
She became a playback singer in 1971 and went on to sing for over five decades. She sang in over 19 languages and won National Film Awards and state government awards.
Vani Jairam's big break came with Guddi in 1971. She worked with many legendary composers, including M. S. Vishwanathan, K. V. Mahadevan, Chakravarthy, Ilaiyaraaja, and Sathyam, among others.

Veteran Filmmaker K. Viswanath Passes Away
Dadasaheb Phalke awardee and renowned filmmaker Kasinadhuni Viswanath died. He was 92.
Popularly known as 'Kalatapasvi', Viswanath was born in February 1930 in Andhra Pradesh.
A prominent name, not just in Telugu cinema but also in Tamil and Hindi films, he became the 48th recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke award, the highest recognition in Indian cinema. He was conferred the award for 2016.
Viswanath started his journey in the film industry as a sound artiste.
Besides Dadasaheb Phalke Award, he was also felicitated with Padma Shri in 1992, five National Awards, 20 Nandi Awards (given by the Andhra Pradesh government) and 10 Filmfare trophies, including the Lifetime Achievement award.

Former Union Law Minister and eminent jurist Shanti Bhushan died at his home in Delhi. He was 97.
Bhushan, who was also a senior advocate, served as the Law Minister from 1977 to 1979 in the Morarji Desai cabinet.

Noted writer K. V. Tirumalesh Passes Away
Noted Kannada writer K.V. Tirumalesh passed away in Hyderabad. He was 82. He is regarded as one of the most versatile writers across genres and a man with eclectic interests.
Though primarily recognised as a poet and honoured with the Sahitya Akademi award for his innovative work Akshaya Kavya — "a long narrative sans story or aim" as he described it — he wrote extensively across genres, including plays, short stories, novels, translations and criticism.
Born in 1940 in Karadka village, Kasaragod district (presently in Kerala), he was a linguist by training and taught at the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU), Hyderabad. He also taught at Iowa University, United States of America, and in Yemen for short periods of time.
