  •  Veteran filmmaker, Abdul Gaffar Nadiadwala passed away at the age of 91.
  • Abdul Gaffar Nadiadwala was known for backing over 50 Hindi films including 1965 film "Mahabharat" and hit comedies in the 2000s such as "Hera Pheri" and "Welcome".
  • He had started his film production and media entertainment company in 1953.

Google Doodle: Indian Physicist Anna Mani

  • On 23 August, Google dedicated a doodle to Anna Mani, India's first female physics scientist. She was a physicist as well as a meteorologist. She has a special contribution related to research in the field of meteorology and energy. Anna Mani was born on 23 August, 1918 in the former state of Travancore (present-day Kerala). She is popularly known as the Weather Woman of India.

BJP Leader Sonali Phogat Dies, Goa Police Register 'Unnatural Death' Case

  • Police have registered an unnatural death case after BJP leader and actor Sonali Phogat was "brought dead" at a hospital at Anjuna in North Goa, a senior police official said on Tuesday. "Preliminary enquiry has revealed that she had come to Goa on August 22 and was staying in a hotel in Anjuna. She started feeling uneasiness at the hotel and was shifted to hospital wherein she was declared brought dead.

Lucknow: Former Jharkhand governor Syed Sibte Razi passes away

  • Former Jharkhand Governor Syed Sibtey Razi passed away in Lucknow on August 20, 2022. He was suffering from heart disease and was under treatment at King George's Medical College. He breathed his last at the Trauma Centre. Besides Jharkhand, he also served as the Governor of Assam. 

India's Star Olympic Football Captain Samar 'Badru' Banerjee Passes Away

  • Former India football team captain Samar 'Badru' Banerjee, who led the country to a historic fourth-place finish in the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, died after a prolonged illness. He was 92. He was fondly known as 'Badru Da'.
  • The Indian football teams have participated in three Olympics so far and till date, the performance by the Banerjee-led 1956 side remains the best, when they finished fourth after losing to Bulgaria 0-3 in the bronze medal playoff, in what was known as the 'golden era' of football in the country.

Tamil scholar, orator Nellai Kannan Passes Away

  • Tamil scholar and orator Nellai Kannan passed away at his residence in Tirunelveli. He was 77.
  • Born in January 1945, Kannan was widely called 'Tamil Kadal' in literary circles for having a vast and deep (like the ocean or 'Kadal') knowledge about a range of topics and exemplary oratorical skills in Tamil. He gave discourses on spirituality and Tamil literature among others. Kannan was a member of the Indian National Congress and appeared as a moderator in many public debate shows.
  • He contested against the late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK leader M Karunanidhi at Chepauk in the 1996 Assembly elections and came second. After leaving the Congress, Kannan actively campaigned for AIADMK in 2006.

This partnership is in line with the efforts of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and Prime Minister Modi's vision of Digital India.

Former BCCI Acting Secretary Amitabh Chaudhary Passes Away

  • Amitabh Chaudhary, the former BCCI acting secretary and president of Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) passed away.
  • A retired senior IPS officer, who rose to the rank of IGP with the Jharkhand Police, the former top cop was also the chairman of Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC).
  • An IIT Kharagpur alumnus, Chaudhary was instrumental in getting the first-class status for Jharkhand after BCCI disbanded the Bihar Cricket Association during the late Jagmohan Dalmiya's tenure.
