Archaeologist B. B. Lal Passes Away

  • Veteran archaeologist and Padma Vibhushan awardee BB Lal died aged 101. Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid rich tributes, saying that he will be remembered as a great intellectual who "deepened our connect with our rich past".
  • Mr. Lal served as the director general of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) from 1968 to 1972. He had reportedly found temple-like pillars during excavation at the Ayodhya site in the mid-70s, where the Ram temple is now being built.

Pintola Names Sunil Chhetri as Brand Ambassador

  • Pintola, the homegrown food brand, got onboard the skipper of the Indian national football team, Sunil Chhetri, as brand ambassador.
  • The renowned Indian football player would be the face of the entity's nut butter brand in a multi-year deal. With this collaboration, Chhetri marked his first collaboration with an FMCG brand in the country.
  • Pintola was launched in 2012, and since then it has been helmed as one of the leading brands in India in its respective category. It is also one of the major brands in online sales across e-commerce mediums.

Queen Elizabeth II Passes Away

  • Queen Elizabeth II, the U.K.'s longest-serving monarch, died at Balmoral aged 96, after reigning for 70 years. Her family gathered at her Scottish estate after concerns grew about her health earlier.
  • The Queen came to the throne in 1952 and witnessed enormous social change.
  • With her death, her eldest son Charles, the former Prince of Wales, will lead the country in mourning as the new King and head of state for 14 Commonwealth realms.
  • The impact of her loss will be huge and unpredictable, both for the nation and for the monarchy, an institution she helped stabilise and modernise across decades of huge social change and family scandals.

Legendary Artist Ramchandra Manjhi Passes Away

  • Padma Shri awardee Ramchandra Manjhi, whose performance in Bhojpuri folk dance 'Naach' for eight decades helped the preservation of the ailing art form died at the age of 97.
  • Manjhi was a famous performer of 'Launda Naach', a sub-set of 'Naach', in which men crossdress as women. His passion for the dance form even in old age has brought him several honours, including Sangeet Natak Akademi Award (2017) and Padma Shri (2021).
  • Born in Saran district in Bihar in 1925, Manjhi was the last scion of the legendary Bhikhari Thakur's 'Naach' form of folk dance. He was one of the members of the original troupe of Bhikhari Thakur, known as Shakespeare of Bhojpuri language.

Indian Boxer Birju Sah Passes Away

  • Indian boxer, Birju Sah passed away at the age of 48. He was the first Indian boxer to win medals at both the Asian and Commonwealth Games. Birju Sah won bronze medals at both the Commonwealth & Asian Games in 1994 and also won bronze in the light flyweight (45-48kg) division.
  • Birju Sah, though once ranked seventh in the world rankings, struggled to make ends meet after his retirement. He worked as a security guard in the Tatanagar area in Jamshedpur but stayed connected with his sport by coaching underprivileged kids from nearby areas for free.

Karnataka Minister Umesh Katti Passes Away

  • Forest, Food & Civil Supplies Minister Umesh Katti, the swaggering BJP leader who dreamt of statehood for north Karnataka, died following a cardiac arrest.
  • Born in Belladbagewadi in Hukkeri taluk of Belagavi, Katti was an eight-time MLA representing Hukkeri constituency after entering politics to fill the shoes of his father Vishwanath Katti in 1985.
  • In the past, Katti served as a minister in the cabinets headed by J. H. Patel, B. S. Yediyurappa, D. V. Sadananda Gowda and Jagadish Shettar. He had expressed chief ministerial ambitions. With Katti's demise, the BJP has lost a big leader in Belagavi, which is arguably Karnataka's most politically significant district.

Former Tata Group Chairman Cyrus Mistry Passes Away

  • Cyrus Mistry, former chairman of Tata Sons and scion of the Shapoorji Pallonji Group, died in a car accident near Mumbai. He was 54.
  • Mistry -- who studied in Cathedral and John Cannon School in Mumbai and London Business School -- became chairman of the Tata group in 2012, after a year-long search by Tata Sons, the holding company of the $103-revenue group. Mistry succeeded Ratan Tata, who retired as Tata group chairman after he turned 75. Cyrus was the sixth chairman of the Tata group and second chairman who did not have the Tata surname. Cyrus joined the Tata Sons board as a director in 2006 and since then was representing Mistry's family on the board.
  • During Mistry's tenure, Tata Power acquired Welspun's renewables energy assets for Rs. 10,000 crore -- making the Tatas an early investor in the sector.
