India Successfully Tests Crystal Maze-2 Missile

  • The Indian Air Force (IAF) has successfully carried out a test firing of a new version of an air-launched medium-range ballistic missile that is capable of hitting targets at a distance exceeding 250 km.
  • The missile, also referred to as ROCKS or Crystal Maze 2, originated from Israel and underwent a test launch from a Su-30 MKI fighter jet in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands last week.
  • Sources in the defence forces told that the missile boasts a strike range of over 250 km and is capable of targeting enemy long-range radar and air defence systems.
  • The IAF now plans to focus on mass production of these missiles under the Make in India initiative, leveraging the technology acquired from Israel. CM-2 represents a new generation extended stand-off range air-to-surface missile, designed to strike high-value stationary and relocatable targets in GPS-denied environments, like the one India faced during the Kargil War.

Indian Navy Women Officers Complete Historic Transoceanic Expedition

  • The Indian Naval Sailing Vessel (INSV) Tarini returned triumphant to her base port at Goa after a historic transoceanic expedition of nearly two months duration.
  • The expedition was undertaken in double-handed mode by Lt. Cdr. Dilna K. and Lt. Cdr. Roopa A, women officers of the Indian Navy. Their exceptional journey marked a historic milestone as they became the first from India to accomplish such a feat.
  • The expedition was Flagged off from Goa by renowned circumnavigator and their mentor Cdr. Abhilash Tomy (Retd) on February 28. After 22 days of navigating through the unpredictable elements of the Indian Ocean, INSV Tarini arrived at Port Louis, Mauritius. This historic moment was celebrated with a series of events where the officers had the privilege of interacting with government officials from the Mauritius Coast Guard and the Indian High Commission. In a gesture of camaraderie and collaboration, the vessel also undertook a training sortie with personnel from the Mauritius Coast Guard embarked, strengthening bilateral ties and fostering goodwill between the two maritime nations.

Rashtriya Raksha University Signs MoU with French Starburst Aerospace

  • Gandhinagar-based Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU) and Starburst Aerospace of France entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to advance aerospace, defence, and homeland security innovation. The MoU includes the creation of a venture capital fund of 100 million euros for aerospace, defence and security technology and provides export promotion support for Indian start-ups to explore international markets.
  • The strategic alliance between RRU, Starburst, and Security and Scientific Technical Research Association (SASTRA), a not-for-profit company set up by RRU, is aimed at fostering innovation and driving advancements in the aerospace, defence and homeland security sectors.
  • RRU and Starburst will work together to advance a vibrant security and defence ecosystem in India, facilitating enterprise creation and nurturing the rapid growth of innovative start-ups in the region.

Indian Navy Conducts Mega Exercise on East Coast

  • The Indian Navy carried out an extensive exercise along the East Coast as part of efforts to check its preparedness to meet any maritime security challenges. The exercise 'Poorvi Leher' witnessed participation of ships, submarines, aircraft and special naval forces.
  • Exercise Poorvi Lehar was conducted on East Coast under the Operational Control of the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command.
  • The exercise was conducted in multiple phases, including combat training in a realistic scenario during the tactical phase and successful conduct of various firings during the weapon phase, towards reaffirming the Indian Navy's capability to deliver ordnance on target.

Amid South China Sea Tension, India Delivers BrahMos to Philippines

  • India delivered the BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles to the Philippines as part of a $375-million deal signed in 2022.
  • An IAF C-17 Globemaster transport aircraft and a chartered aircraft delivered the missile system to the Philippines Marine Corps. 
  • As per reports, three batteries of the weapon system would be deployed by the Philippines in their coastal area amid tensions with China in the South China Sea.
  • The deal for a shore-based variant of an anti-ship cruise missile marked India's first major export order. The missile has a range of around 290 km.

CRPF ADG Nalin Prabhat New Chief of NSG

  • Senior IPS officer Nalin Prabhat was appointed as the Director-General of National Security Guard (NSG), the country's counter-terrorism force.
  • The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved his appointment as the Director General, NSG for a period up to August 31, 2028, i.e. the date of his superannuation.
  • Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) chief Daljit Singh Chawdhary was holding the additional charge of the NSG.
  • The ACC also approved the appointment of Intelligence Bureau Additional Director Sapna Tewari as the Special Director in the agency. Tewari was appointed for a tenure of two years from the date of assumption of charge of the post or up to the date of her superannuation, i.e. April 30, 2026.

AFMS & IIT Kanpur to Collaborate on Developing Technologies to Address Health Problems Faced by S...

  • The Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on research and development of technologies to address health issues faced by soldiers in difficult terrains. The MoU was signed by Lt Gen Daljit Singh, Director General of AFMS, and Prof S Ganesh, Officiating Director of IIT Kanpur.
  • Under this partnership, AFMS and IIT Kanpur will work together to conduct research and develop innovative technologies aimed at tackling the health challenges encountered by soldiers operating in tough environments. IIT Kanpur will provide technical expertise to develop AI diagnostic models at the Armed Forces Centre for Computational Medicine, which has been established at the Armed Forces Medical College in Pune. This centre is the first of its kind among medical colleges in India.
