Berlin's Neue Nationalgalerie Reopens after 6 Years
Berlin's Neue Nationalgalerie, an iconic modern art museum designed by Bauhaus pioneer Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, reopened to the public after a six-year refurbishment of the glass-fronted building.
Germany's Culture Minister, Monika Gruetters, said that the occasion marked the museum's brilliant comeback as a pilgrimage site for lovers of modern art and as a stage for contemporary artists.

Metal Detectorist Finds Sword Pyramid
A metal detectorist in England discovered a tiny pyramid-shaped artifact that may have been used by an elite warrior at the top of his scabbard.
The 1,400-year-old sword pyramid is about 0.24 inches (6 millimeters) high and 0.47 inches (12 mm) long at its base.
It was found in a place where no archaeological site is known to exist.
The sword pyramid is made of gold and garnet stones that may have come from India or Sri Lanka, likely arriving through long-distance trade routes. Sword pyramids are "rather rare finds, and this one appears to be fairly well constructed.

Moti Bagh: Indian Documentary Shortlisted for BBC LongShots
An Indian film about a farmer in a Himalayan village has been shortlisted for LongShots, the BBC's online documentary film festival.
Nirmal Chander's documentary, Moti Bagh, is among the 110 films shortlisted by an alliance of 13 international film festivals.
It follows 83-year-old Vidyadutt Sharma who grows radishes and writes poetry in the northern state of Uttarakhand.
His goal is simple - he wants to grow the biggest radish India has ever seen.
But his story is also about a rural way of life that is fast disappearing.
Through Sharma's eyes, Mr. Chander explores complex themes of migration, discrimination towards outsiders, and a dwindling interest in farming among young people living in rural India.

Monastery of Powerful Anglo Saxon Queen Discovered
The site of a lost Anglo Saxon monastery, which may hold the grave of the powerful queen who founded it, has been rediscovered in the heart of the Berkshire village of Cookham. Its most famous resident was the artist Stanley Spencer, who celebrated his native village as a literal paradise on earth in his work—and unknowingly included the site of the lost monastery in the grounds of Holy Trinity church in many paintings.
The monastery was one of many established along the banks of the Thames, at the time a major trading route, and a contested boundary between the kingdoms of Mercia and Wessex. Written sources documented its existence and rule by Queen Cynethryth, wife of the Mercian King Offa (of Offa's Dyke fame), a powerful woman ruler and uniquely portrayed on a silver coin in her own right, but the site had been lost. The excavation proves that it was built like the present medieval parish church on a gravel island raising it above the frequent floods on this stretch of the river.
