Neeraj Chopra Wins Sportsman of the Year Award: Sportstar Aces 2022

  • Tokyo Olympic gold medallist, Neeraj Chopra claimed the coveted 'Sportstar of the Year (Male)' award at the 2022 Sportstar Aces Awards. Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, who claimed the silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics, received the 'Sportstar of the Year (Female)' award. The Aces Awards celebrate the spirit of excellence in sport and hope to inspire our athletes and sportspersons to continue to strive to break new records and reach new pinnacles of glory.

A Certificate of Accreditation Awarded to Mangaluru International Airport

  • In March 2022, Airports Council International (ACI) awarded a certificate of accreditation to Mangaluru International Airport. The accreditation is for level one of the Airport Customer Experience Accreditation programme. . The certificate recognises the commitment of the airport to continued customer experience improvement.
  • Mangaluru International Airport is the third in India to get this coveted accreditation. It is designed to help airports implement best practices, educate employees and ensure customer satisfaction through excellence in service.

Suresh Raina Felicitated with 'Sports Icon' Award by Maldives Government

  • Former India cricketer Suresh Raina was felicitated with the prestigious 'Sports Icon' award at the Maldives Sports Awards 2022 by the Maldives government. He was nominated alongside 16 international sportspersons, including former Real Madrid player Roberto Carlos, Jamaican Sprinter Asafa Powell, former Sri Lankan captain and cricketer Sanath Jayasuriya and Dutch football legend Edgar Davids.
  • Raina was presented with the award for his various achievements throughout his career.
  • The event was chaired by the President of Maldives Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Sports Ministers, world-renowned athletes and Maldivian athletes.

Devendra Jhajharia, First Para Athlete, to Receive Padma Bhushan

  • The legendary Devendra Jhajharia became the first para athlete to receive the Padma Bhushan, the country's third highest civilian award.
  • Jhajharia is a multiple-time Paralympics medal winner, having won his maiden gold during the 2004 Paralympics in Athens, his second gold medal during the Rio Games in 2016, and a silver medal during the 2020 Tokyo edition last year.
  • The javelin thrower competes in the F46 events in the Paralympics and was among the four Paralympic medallists to be conferred with the Padma awards this year.

NITI Aayog Organizes 5th Edition of Women Transforming India Awards

  • As part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav to celebrate 75 years of India's independence, the Women Transforming India Awards were conferred on seventy five women achievers to celebrate their contribution towards a Sashakt Aur Samarth Bharat.The 75 awardees represent different regions and sectors and have been selected through an elaborate process spanning several months. The awardees have been selected on the basis of nominations received on Women Entrepreneurship Platform (WEP) and through shortlisting by a search-and-select committee.
  • The Women Transforming India Awards is NITI Aayog's annual initiative to highlight the commendable and ground-breaking endeavours of India's women leaders and change-makers.

President Kovind Confers Padma Awards For 2022

  • President Ram Nath Kovind presented Padma Awards at the Civil Investiture Ceremony-I held at Rashtrapati Bhavan this evening. Mr. Kovind presented Padma Vibhushan to CDS General Bipin Rawat and Radhey Shyam Khemka posthumously. Daughters of General Rawat, Kritika and Tarini and Khemka's son Krishna Kumar received the awards.
  • Veteran leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekharan, Paralympics Medalist Devendra Jhajharia, former Comptroller and Auditor General Rajiv Mehrishi, Managing Director of the Serum Institute of India Cyrus Poonawalla, welfare activist Sachchidanand Swami, Classical vocalist Rashid Khan received the Padma Bhushan. Singer Gurmeet Bawa was given the award posthumously.
  • Fifty-Four people were given Padma Shri Awards. They include Film and Television series Director Chandraprakash Dwivedi, 125-year-old yoga enthusiast of Varanasi Swami Sivanand, traditional doll maker from Manipur Konsam Ibomcha Singh, Kannada Author Siddalingaiah, progressive horticulture farmer Sethpal Singh, engineer and academician Dilip Shahani, veteran football player Bramhanand Sankhwalkar and Gond Painter Durga Bai Vyam.

Karnataka Bank Bags Award 'Best MSME Bank of the Year - Winner'

  • Karnataka Bank bagged Best MSME Bank of the year - "Winner" among Private Sector Banks at the ASSOCHAMs - 8th MSMEs Excellence Awards Ceremony and Summit. The award was received by Shri Gopalakrishna Samaga B, DGM, Credit Marketing Department on behalf of Karnataka Bank Ltd in the presence of Shri Narayan T. Rane, Hon'ble Minister, Ministry of MSME, Government of India.

Diébédo Francis Kéré: The First African to Win Architecture's Top Award

  • Burkino Faso-born architect, Diébédo Francis Kéré, became the first African to win the prestigious Pritzker Prize, which is often referred to as the Nobel Prize of architecture. His highly esteemed work, including permanent and temporary structures, has been erected in his country of birth, but also across Africa, Europe and the United States.
  • His decades-long journey to the top of his field was far from straightforward, with limited opportunities in his village.
  • Mr. Kéré designed a primary school in his home village of Gando as his first building in 2001.
  • The success of the primary school earnt Mr. Kéré the Aga Khan Award in 2004, which is awarded every three years to identify building projects that address the needs of societies with a large Muslim population.
  • The renown of the Gando School later paved the way for him to design more educational establishments, like Lycée Schorge, also in Burkina Faso.

R. Praggnanandhaa Awarded With 'Sankara' Accolade

  • India's teenage Grandmaster Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa received the 'Sankara Award' of this year at a function held at Kalady. R Praggnanandhaa who defeated Chess World Champion Magnus Carlsen received the award as well as a cash reward of Rs. 1 Lakh. This yearly award is jointly given by Adi Sankara trust, Institute of Engineering College and Sree Sarada Vidyalaya situated in Kalady, Kerala.
