Journalist Aarefa Johari Awarded Chameli Devi Jain Award 2021

  • A journalist from Mumbai, Aarefa Johari was awarded the Chameli Devi Jain Award for an Outstanding Woman Media person 2021. It was announced by the Media Foundation. Aarefa Johari works for 'Scroll. in' in Mumbai, Maharashtra. In 2020, Neetu Singh got this award. She is associated with 'Goan Connection' media house. Jury: Nirupama Subramania, Githa Hariharan and Ashutosh.
  • The Chameli Devi Jain Award for Outstanding Women Mediaperson is an Indian journalism award named after Chameli Devi Jain, an Indian independence activist who became the first Jain woman to go to prison during India's independence struggle. The award was instituted in 1980 by The Media Foundation and is given to women in the field of journalism.

Ramdarash Mishra Selected for Saraswati Samman 2021

  • Noted poet and litterateur Prof. Ramdarash Mishra will be awarded the prestigious Saraswati Samman, 2021, for his collection of poems 'Mein to Yahan Hun', the KK Birla Foundation announced.
  • Instituted in 1991, Saraswati Samman is one of the most prestigious literary awards in the country. It is given every year to an outstanding literary work written in any Indian language by an Indian citizen and published within the last 10 years. It carries a citation, a plaque, and a cash prize of Rs. 15 lakhs. The recipient is chosen by a selection committee, whose current head is Dr. Subhash C. Kashyap, former secretary-general of the Lok Sabha Secretariat.
  • Mishra has excelled in different branches of Hindi literature. In a career spanning decades, the 98-year-old has to his credit 32 collections of poems, 15 novels, 30 short-story collections, 15 books of literary criticism, four collections of essays, travelogues, and several memoirs. He has also served as an important member of different Hindi consultative committees in various ministries and retired as a professor from the Hindi department of the University of Delhi.

Bengaluru-based Ricky Kej Wins His Second Grammy Award

  • At the 64th Annual Grammy Awards held in Las Vegas, Bengaluru-based Ricky Kej earned his second coveted gramophone trophy in the best new album category for 'Divine Tides', his collaboration with The Police drummer Stewart Copeland. Kej won his first Grammy in 2015 for the best new age album category for 'Winds of Samsara'.
  • The North Carolina-born musician greeted the audiences with a 'Namaste' when he took the stage with Copeland to receive the prestigious award.

Indian- American Singer Wins Grammy Award 2022 in Best Children's Album Category

  • New York-based Indian singer Falguni Shah, known by her stage name Falu, won a Grammy Award for 'A Colorful World' in the best children's album category. The singer, known for her "modern inventive style with a formidable Indian classically-shaped vocal talent", was previously nominated for a Grammy in the same category for her 2018 album "Falu's Bazaar".
  • Shah, who is in her early 40s, has trained in Hindustani Classical music in the Jaipur musical tradition and in the Benares style of thumrie under Kaumudi Munshi and semi classical music from Uday Mazumdar.

BS Awards for Corporate Excellence 2021

  • An eight-member jury selected the winners of the Business Standard Annual Awards for Corporate Excellence 2021, and Mumbai-headquarterd Cipla was chosen as the Company of the Year by the stellar jury.
  • Mumbai-headquartered Cipla is the third-largest pharmaceutical company in India, the third-largest over-the-counter (OTC) player in South Africa, the eighth largest by prescription in the US, and the second-largest Indian exporter to the emerging markets. It was established in 1935.
  • The jury was chaired by Aditya Birla Group Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla and included JSW Group Chairman Sajjan Jindal, KKR India Senior Advisor Sanjay Nayar, AZB & Partners Founder and Managing Partner Zia Mody, EY India Chairman Rajiv Memani, McKinsey & Company Senior Partner Noshir Kaka, Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas Managing Partner Cyril Shroff, and Bain Capital Private Equity Chairman Amit Chandra.

Mata Vaishno Devi Board Bags Award for Water Conservation

  • President Ram Nath Kovind honoured the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board for being the best in water conservation practices during the 'National Water Awards-2022' ceremony. Board's CEO Ramesh Kumar took the prize. The award was from the Ministry of Jal Shakti in recognition of the strides made by the board to promote water conservation and proper water management in the category of 'Best Institution/Resident Welfare Association/Religious Organisation for Campus Usage'. President Ram Nath Kovind appealed to the people to join the government's movement for water conservation. He asked the district administrations and sarpanches to play a special role in inspiring them to become its part. He also launched the 'Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain campaign 2022'.
  • Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu have secured the first, second and third prizes, respectively, in the best state category.
