MIT Professor Hari Balakrishnan Wins 2023 Marconi Prize
Computer scientist Hari Balakrishnan was awarded the 2023 Marconi Prize. Balakrishnan is a professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
The Marconi Prize is a top honour for computer scientists and is awarded by the U.S. based Marconi Foundation. It is given to those who have made a significant contribution to increasing digital inclusivity through advanced information and communications technology.
Balakrishnan is cited "for fundamental contributions to wired and wireless networking, mobile sensing, and distributed systems".
Balakrishnan has previously won the Infosys Prize (2020) and the IEEE Koji Kobayashi Computers and Communications Award (2021).
Previous winners of the Marconi Prize include Sir Tim Berners-Lee, Google cofounder Sergey Brin, and sci-fi author Arthur C. Clarke.

Navy Chief Awarded On-The-Spot Unit Citation INS Nireekshak for Salvage Operation
The Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) Adm R. Harikumar visited INS Nireekshak at Kochi where he interacted with the diving team of the ship involved in the salvage operations at a depth of 219 meters in the Arabian Sea. He commended the ship on the safe and successful conduct of the operations under the most challenging circumstances. This is the deepest salvage carried out in the country's waters.
The CNS awarded the ship an 'on the spot' Unit Citation, a first in Indian Navy. He also awarded commendations to the crew involved in the salvage ops.
INS Nireekshak is a Dive Support and Submarine Rescue Vessel of the Indian Navy. Built by Mazgaon Shipbuilders in 1985, the ship has been in service with the Navy since 1989.

EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2022 Award Goes to Sajjan Jindal
Sajjan Jindal, Chairman and Managing Director of the JSW Group, was declared the EY Entrepreneur of the year 2022. A seven-member jury led by K. V. Kamath, former Chairman of ICICI Bank, adjudged Jindal as the winner for his exceptional entrepreneurial journey in scaling the global conglomerate with presence in steel, cement, infrastructure, energy, and paints to a revenue of $22 billion globally; employing over 40,000 people.
Jindal will represent India at the EY World Entrepreneur of the Year Award at Monte Carlo in June.

Sansad Ratna Award 2023
Thirteen members of Parliament (MP) were nominated for the Sansad Ratna Awards 2023. The Jury Committee of eminent Parliamentarians and civil society, chaired by Arjun Ram Meghwal (State Minister of Parliamentary Affairs) and Co-Chaired by T. S. Krishnamurthy (Former Chief Election Commissioner of India) has nominated eight MPs from Lok Sabha and five from Rajya Sabha for the Sansad Ratna Awards 2023. These nominations are based on cumulative performance in questions, private members' bills and members' debates from the beginning of the 17th Lok Sabha till the end of the Winter Session 2022.

Pt Prem Kumar Mallick Bags for the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award 2019
Noted classical singer and professor in the department of music and performing arts of Allahabad University (AU) Pt Prem Kumar Mallick bagged the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for the year 2019.
Mallick was given the award by President Droupadi Murmu at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi for his contributions in the field of music (Hindustani Vocal).
He received this award along with other artistes from across the country for the award for years 2019, 2020 and 2021 for their contributions in the field of dance, music, theatre and other performing arts announced in November 2022.
Ranbir Kapoor Wins Best Actor at the DPIFF Awards 2023
The DPIFF (Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival Awards) was started in 2012. It is an independent corporate film festival. It is not the same "Dadasaheb Phalke Award" presented at the National Film Awards. The 'Dadasaheb Phalke Award' is presented in a ceremony organised by the Government of India (Directorate of Film Festivals). But the DPIFF is completely a private ceremony organised by the family members of Dadasaheb Phalke.
