Alia Mir, First Woman Wildlife Rescuer in J-K, Honoured with Wildlife Conservation Award

  • Alia Mir, a woman from Jammu and Kashmir was honoured with the Wildlife Conservation Award by the administration for her conservation efforts in the region.
  • J-K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha facilitated her with the wildlife honour award.
  • Alia is also the first woman from Kashmir who works for the charity Wildlife SOS organisation which is part of the Wildlife Rescue Team.
  • Alia, who is an eminent sociologist, was awarded at the World Forestry Day celebrations organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Collective Forests. She was awarded the award for her achievements in all aspects of wildlife conservation including bear rescue in Kashmir, rescue and release of wild animals, injured animal care, and wildlife.

Assam NGO Wins Children's Champion Award 2023

  • Students' Welfare Mission, an NGO from Assam's Pathsala which has been working for special and autistic children, was conferred with the Children's Champion Award 2023. Instituted by the Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights last year (2022) to recognise individuals and institutions that have championed the cause of children across education, justice, health, nutrition, sports and artistic expression categories, the Mission, which is popularly known as Tapoban, was awarded in the health and nutrition category.
  • Justice S. Muralidhar, Chief Justice of the Odisha High Court, presented the award to Kumud Kalita, founder-president of Tapoban, in New Delhi. The award carries Rs. 75,000, a certificate and a plaque.

Isha Ambani Wins GenNext Entrepreneur Award

  • Isha Ambani, the leader of Reliance Retail business, won the GenNext Entrepreneur Award at the 12th Forbes India Leadership Awards 2023.
  • Isha dedicated the award to her parents Mukesh and Nita Ambani for their support and inspiration, and her children, Aadiyashakti and Krishna.
  • At the 45th Annual General Meeting of Reliance Industries Limited in August 2022, Mukesh Ambani had introduced Isha as the leader of Reliance Retail business.

Luis Caffarelli Wins Abel Prize for Mathematics

  • The Abel Prize for mathematics was awarded to Argentine-American Luis Caffarelli, an expert in partial differential equations, which can explain phenomena ranging from how water flows to population growth.
  • A professor at the University of Texas, Caffarelli was honoured for his seminal contributions to regularity theory for nonlinear partial differential equations.
  • The previous recipient of the prize was U.S. mathematician Dennis Sullivan for his research into topology and chaos theory.
  • The Abel Prize is awarded annually by the King of Norway to one or more outstanding mathematicians. It is named after the Norwegian mathematician Niels Henrik Abel and directly modelled after the Nobel Prizes. It comes with a monetary award of 7.5 million Norwegian kroner.
  • The first actual Abel Prize was awarded in 2003.

Aditya Birla Group Chairman K. M. Birla Receives Padma Bhushan Award

  • Aditya Birla Group Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla, the recipient of Padma Bhushan this year (2023), is the fourth in the extended Birla family to be conferred the nation's highest civilian honours.
  • Birla was conferred the Padma Bhushan, the country's third highest civilian award by President Droupadi Murmu.
  • His great grandfather GD Birla was a recipient of Padma Vibhushan in 1957 and his mother Rajashree Birla was awarded Padma Bhushan in 2011.
  • GP Birla, cousin of Kumar Mangalam Birla's grandfather BK Birla, was awarded Padma Bhushan in 2006.

Indian-American Receives National Humanities Medal from Joe Biden

  • US President Joe Biden presented the 2021 National Humanities Medals, in conjunction with the National Medals of Arts. Indian-American Vera Mindy Chokalingam, professionally known as Mindy Kaling awarded the 2021 National Humanities Medal among others.
  • The recipients for 2021 National Humanities Medal are Richard Blanco, Johnnetta Betsch Cole, Walter Isaacson, Earl Lewis, Henrietta Mann, Ann Patchett, Bryan Stevenson, Amy Tan, Tara Westover, Colson Whitehead and Native America Calling.
  • The National Medal of Arts is the most prestigious award granted by the US government to artists, arts advocates, and organizations.
