International Albinism Awareness Day
International Albinism Awareness Day (IAAD) is celebrated annually on June 13. The holiday is organized by the United Nations to battle discrimination against those diagnosed with albinism and to create a society that is aware. This event is also an opportunity to celebrate the human rights of persons with albinism worldwide.
Albinism was a serious problem in Tanzania during the mid-2000s. The country is believed to be having the highest percentage of albinos living. Hundreds of them have been brutally murdered and mutilated in the African country in the past decades. Local superstitions claim their body parts can bring luck and prosperity. Another widespread rumor is that albinos are evil spirits. The Tanzania Albinism Society (TAS) and other NGOs campaigned for the human rights of albinos. On May 4, 2006 they celebrated the first Albino Day. 2009 onwards, it came to be known as National Albino Day.
In 2013, the UNHRC adopted a resolution called "Attacks and discrimination against persons with albinism." This UN resolution appealed for the prevention of attacks and discrimination against persons with albinism since it is still profoundly misunderstood, socially and medically. The physical appearance of persons with albinism is often the object of erroneous beliefs and myths influenced by superstition, which foster their marginalization and social exclusion and leads to various forms of stigma and discrimination.
Eventually, On December 18, 2014, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted a resolution proclaiming 13 June as International Albinism Awareness Day, with effect from 2015. In response to the call from civil society organizations, the UNGA also created the mandate of Independent Expert on the enjoyment of human rights by persons with albinism on March 26, 2015.
The theme for International Albinism Awareness Day 2023 is 'Inclusion is strength'.

World Brain Tumour Day
Every year on June 8, World Brain Tumour Day is observed globally to enhance understanding and raise awareness about brain tumours. As the fourth most serious and widespread disease worldwide, brain cancer is anticipated to surpass skin cancer and become the second most prevalent form of cancer by 2030.
The history of World Brain Tumour Day dates back to the early 2000s when the German Brain Tumour Association (Deutsche Hirntumorhilfe e.V.) initiated a campaign to raise awareness about brain tumours. In 2000, the association declared May 8 as German Brain Tumour Day, aiming to inform the public about the challenges faced by patients and their families.
Over time, the observance gained international recognition, and efforts were made to establish a global day dedicated to brain tumour awareness. In 2010, the International Brain Tumour Alliance (IBTA), an organization that brings together brain tumour advocacy groups from around the world, designated June 8 as World Brain Tumour Day.
The theme for 2023 World Brain Tumour Day is "Protect yourself – keep away from stress". The theme emphasises the importance of developing stress management techniques to prevent brain tumours.
