International Students' Day

  • International Students' Day, which celebrates the global student community and the challenges faced by international students, is observed on November 17 every year.
  • International Students' Day is celebrated on November 17, the anniversary of the Nazi invasion of a university in Prague in 1939. The Nazis imprisoned nearly a thousand students, closed the university, and killed and tortured several others. The aim of the day is to honour those students and to raise awareness of the challenges facing us today.
  • The theme for this year's (2023) International Students' Day is 'FAIL': stands for 'First Attempt in Learning'.

National Epilepsy Day

  • National Epilepsy Day is celebrated every year on November 17 in India to raise awareness around epilepsy and also its impact on people, families and the society.
  • This day was founded by the National Epilepsy Foundation of India, a non-profit charitable organisation. The National Epilepsy Foundation of India was founded by Dr. Nirmal Surya in 2008, in Mumbai.

Jharkhand Foundation Day

  • Jharkhand is the 28th state of India. It was formed on November 15, 2000 after a long-standing tribal movement for statehood. Jharkhand was earlier a part of Bihar, more precisely it was then South Bihar. November 15 is the birth anniversary of tribal leader Birsa Munda who was a part of the tribal movement against the British in the 1870s. He was arrested by the British when he got highly involved in the movement and died in a Ranchi jail at the young age of 25 in 1900. President Droupadi Murmu took part in the state's foundation day celebrations this year (2023) at Morhabadi ground and also visited the birthplace of Munda in Ulihatu village in Khunti district.

National Press Day

  • National Press Day is observed on November 16, every year, in India to celebrate the importance of a free and responsible press in a democratic society. The day is celebrated to commemorate the establishment of the Press Council of India (PCI) in 1966, which acts as a regulatory body for the news media in the country.
  • The theme for National Press Day 2023 is 'Media in the Era of Artificial Intelligence'.

International Day for Tolerance

  • International Day of Tolerance is observed annually on November 16 with the primary aim of promoting mutual understanding and respect among all the diverse cultures and communities across the globe.
  • International Day for Tolerance was initially established by the United Nations in 1996 to promote understanding among cultures and foster respect for diversity. This day is observed in commemoration of the adoption of the Declaration of Principles on Tolerance by UNESCO member states on November 16, 1995. The declaration highlights that tolerance is important for peace and progress, encouraging societies to recognise the importance of mutual respect and dialogue. It also seeks to raise awareness about the dangers of intolerance and promote education as a means to prevent prejudice and discrimination.

World COPD Day

  • World COPD Day is observed every year on the third Wednesday of November for the past 20 years (since 2002). This year (2023) it is observed on November 15. It is a global healthcare event to raise awareness of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), amongst the public around the world.
  • This year, 2023, the World COPD Day theme is 'Breathing is Life - Act Earlier'. The Theme emphasises the significance of early lung health and the ways that early intervention might broaden the scope of COPD prevention and treatment.

World Diabetes Day

  • World Diabetes Day is celebrated every year on November 14 and the day is an opportunity to raise awareness about diabetes as a global public health issue and decide the strategies as to what needs to be done, collectively and individually for better prevention, diagnosis and management of the condition.
  • World Diabetes Day was established by the International Diabetes Foundation (IDF) and the World Health Organisation (WHO) in 1991, as a response to growing concerns about the escalating health threat posed by the ailment.
  • The theme for World Diabetes Day 2023 is 'Access to Diabetes Care'.

  • World Kindness Day is celebrated on November 13 every year. The day inspires people to appreciate the kindness and positive power in society.
  • World Kindness Day commenced in the year 1998 by an organisation named World Kindness Movement during the 1997 Tokyo Conference. This international event is celebrated in many countries including Canada, Nigeria, Japan, Australia, and the United Arab Emirates. Along with Singapore, India, and Italy celebrated the day in the year 2009.
