Swadesh Darshan Revampes to Create Jobs, Preserve Local Cultural: Centre

The Ministry of Tourism revamped its Swadesh Darshan scheme with an objective to create jobs, including self-employment for local communities, and preserve and enhance the local cultural and natural resources.
The ministry under this scheme provides financial assistance to state governments or Union Territory administrations or central agencies for development of tourism infrastructure in the country.
The projects under this scheme are sanctioned subject to availability of funds, submission of suitable detailed project reports (DPR), adherence to scheme guidelines and utilisation of funds released earlier, among others.
The government under its Swadesh Darshan Scheme (SDS) sanctioned 10 projects under the theme of Coastal Circuit.
The Ministry of Tourism revamped its Swadesh Darshan scheme as Swadesh Darshan 2.0 (SD2.0) in order to develop sustainable and responsible destination centric approach with objectives such as enhancing contribution of tourism to local economies; creating jobs including self-employment for local communities; and enhancing skills of local youth in tourism and hospitality.

Uttarakhand Tourism Department to Develop 'Modi Circuit' at Corbett Reserve

The Uttarakhand tourism department is working on a plan to develop a "Modi circuit" at the Corbett Tiger Reserve, covering the places visited by Prime Minister Narendra Modi while shooting for a television programme in 2019.
Modi had undertaken a slew of adventure activities while shooting for an episode of "Man vs Wild", hosted by Bear Grylls on Discovery channel. During the shoot, Modi and Grylls crossed the Kosi River on a makeshift raft and walked through a tiger trail, with the Prime Minister holding a spear in his hand.

Legazpi's Refurbished Kalayaan Park Seen to Draw more Visitors

After seven months of refurbishing and sprucing up, another tourism-oriented project is now open to the public and is anticipated to draw more visitors to this city.
The Kalayaan Park (Freedom Park) is a 1.3-hectare area located in Barangay Gogon, Legazpi, Philippines that showcases state-of-the-art amenities which cater to people of all ages.
Kalayaan Park was originally constructed during the martial law years and was then named "Imelda Park" in honour of former First Lady Imelda Marcos.

World Airport Traffic Dataset 2021: New Delhi among Top 20 Busiest Airports

The Airports Council International (ACI) World released the annual World Airport Traffic Dataset to reveal the global air traffic rankings of the top 20 aviation industries for the full year 2021. The World Airport Traffic Dataset is the industry's most comprehensive airport statistics dataset featuring airport traffic for over 2,600 airports in more than 180 countries and territories. It provides a view of air transport demand across the world's airports in three areas: passengers (international and domestic), air cargo (freight and mail) and aircraft movements (air transport movements and general aviation).
Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) has topped the 2021 Ranking with 7.6 crore passengers in terms of passenger footfall in the year 2021.
From India, the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in New Delhi was ranked among the top 20, as the 13th busiest airport. IGIA witnessed 3.7 crore passenger footfall in 2021, which is 30.3% more than 2.8 crore in 2020 when IGI was ranked 16th.

Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Island Given to A&N Administration to Enhance Tourism

The historic Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Island was transferred from the Andaman and Nicobar Command to the Andaman & Nicobar Administration for further development of the island's infrastructure and tourism. During the formal ceremony on Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Island, Commander-in-Chief of A&N Command Lt. General Ajai Singh symbolically gave Dy. Commissioner, South Andaman Suneel Anchipaka control of the island. He also recalled the significance of this island historically and the sequence of events connected to it. He anticipated the island's general growth as a tourism attraction under the management of the administration.
The island was under Administrative Control of INS Jarwa since 1967. Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Island had been Administrative headquarters of British rule in the islands till the Japanese occupied it in 1942. The island had Chief Commissioner Bungalow and other structures which got damaged during Second World War. Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose also stayed on the island during his visit to Andaman and Nicobar in 1943.
In December 2018, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Island was given a new name by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It was formerly referred to as Ross Island. The island welcomes visitors and is a popular tourist destination.

Third Bharat Gaurav Tourist Train �" Madurai to Varanasi

Continuing with theme-based tourist service, the third Bharat Gaurav train operated by a private player was flagged off from Madurai for Varanasi, covering many religious and tourist spots.
Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Coal and Mines Prahlad Joshi, flagged off the train from New Delhi through video-conference.
The theme-based tourist train with a 12-day round trip will cover Madurai, Chennai, Vijayawada, Puri, Kolkata, Gaya, Varanasi, and Prayagraj, featuring various tourism spots enroute.
The 14-coach train with pantry, AC, and sleeper facilities is operated by Travel Times Private Ltd, a private service provider for tourists.
