Venice International Film Festival Concludes

  • The 82nd Venice International Film Festival was held at Venice Lido in Italy.
  • American filmmaker Alexander Payne served as Jury President for the main competition, while Italian actress and comedian Emanuela Fanelli hosted the opening and closing ceremonies. 
  • German filmmaker Werner Herzog and American actress Kim Novak were awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement during the festival.

Anand V. Patil to Receive Prof. V.K. Gokak Award in Bengaluru

  • In a celebration of literary excellence, Anand V. Patil, renowned for his contributions to children's literature, will be conferred with the Prof. V.K. Gokak Award in Bengaluru on September 7, 2025.
  • The award, named after one of India's most influential literary figures, Prof. Vinayaka Krishna Gokak, honoured individuals who had made significant contributions to Indian literature, particularly in Kannada.

Ministry of Coal Hosts Star Rating Awards Ceremony for Coal & Lignite Mines

  • The Ministry of Coal organised the prestigious Star Rating Awards Ceremony for Coal and Lignite Mines in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The event recognised coal and lignite mines across India for their exceptional performance in operational excellence, environmental care, safety, and community development.
  • The ceremony was attended by Union Minister of Coal & Mines, G. Kishan Reddy, as the Chief Guest, and Union Minister of State for Coal and Mines, Satish Chandra Dubey. Senior officials from the Ministry of Coal, representatives of coal PSUs, and industry stakeholders will also join the gathering.
  • The Star Rating system, instituted by the Ministry of Coal, acknowledge the outstanding performance of coal and lignite mines, aiming to promote responsible mining practices, enhance industry standards, and ensure sustainable growth in the sector. The Ministry evaluates mines through a structured and comprehensive framework covering seven modules; Mining Operations, Environmental Parameters, Adoption of Technology and Best Practices, Economic Performance, Rehabilitation & Resettlement, Worker-Related Compliance, and Safety & Security. Mines are rated on a scale from Five Star to No Star under three categories Underground, Opencast, and Mixed.

Dr. Ambedkar National Merit Awards Ceremony 2025

  • Dr. Ambedkar Foundation, Autonomous body of Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment successfully organised Dr. Ambedkar National Merit Award Ceremony at New Delhi. The ceremony was organised to felicitate meritorious Students belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) who secured top positions in the class 10th and meritorious Students belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC) who secured top positions in the class 12th Examinations conducted by recognised State/Central Boards and Councils.
  • Total 29 State/Central Boards and Councils were taken into consideration for the years 2021-22& 2022-23. A total of 367 students were awarded from class 10, out of which 22 were toppers and a total of 563 students were awarded from class 12, out of which 49 were toppers, during the session 2021-22. However, for the Session 2022-23, a total of 198 students were awarded from class 10, out of which 17 were toppers and a total of 362 students were awarded from class 12, out of which 29 were toppers.

Educate Girls Wins 2025 Ramon Magsaysay Award

  • Educate Girls, officially known as the Foundation to Educate Girls Globally, achieved a historic feat by becoming the first Indian organisation to win the Ramon Magsaysay Award, one of Asia's most prestigious honours. The award recognises the NGO's relentless efforts in transforming the educational landscape for out-of-school girls in India's remotest regions.
  • Founded in 2007 by Safeena Husain, a graduate of the London School of Economics, Educate Girls was born out of a mission to tackle female illiteracy in India. Husain left her corporate career in San Francisco and returned to India with a single-minded focus: to bring every girl child into school.
  • Starting in the desert villages of Rajasthan, Educate Girls identified communities most resistant to girls' education. The NGO's grassroots model led to:
  • Enrolment and retention of over 2 million girls
  • Expansion to 30,000+ villages across India
  • School retention rate exceeding 90%
  • In 2015, the NGO pioneered the world's first Development Impact Bond in education, linking investor funds to measurable educational outcomes. This model attracted global attention and catalysed scalable interventions in India's rural education sector.

President of India Presents SCOPE Eminence Awards

  • The President of India, Droupadi Murmu presented the Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE) Eminence Award for Outstanding Women Leadership to A. Manimekhalai, former Managing Director & CEO of Union Bank of India, in recognition of her impactful leadership and role in transforming one of India's oldest public sector banks.
  • Manimekhalai made history in June 2022 by becoming the first woman to head Union Bank of India since its inception in 1919.
